  Frilled shark
The frilled shark or frill shark (Chlamydoselachus anguineus) is a primitive shark, the sole living member of the Chlamydoselachidae in the order Hexanchiformes.
It is very different from the other hexanchiforms, and has been recently proposed to be given its own order Chlamydoselachiformes.
Additional extinct types are known from fossil teeth.

Classifying sharks is so complicated that even experts cannot agree on precisely which species belong where.
Some authorities put the frilled shark, of which there is only one known species, into a separate order called the Chlamydoselachiformes.
Meanwhile others assign a group known as the bramble sharks, whose two species most taxonomists place in the Squaliformes, to its own order called the Echinorhiniformes.

This monograph deals with the morphology of the teeth and dermal denticles of the recent and fossil squalomorph sharks of the orders CHLAMYDOSELACHIFORMES and ECHINORHINIFORMES.
Based on tooth morphology the CHLAMYDOSELACHIFORMES and ECHINORHINIFORMES, both as separate orders, are contrasted with the orders HEXANCHIFORMES (with a new family EONOTIDANIDAE and a new genus Eonotidanus), with the SQUALIFORMES and the PRISTIOPHORIFORMES.
In the systematic part all known and nine new species are described and illustrated in detail under tooth-morphological aspects with special respect to the various forms of heterodonty.

However, the gill placement is always a determining feature.
Some may argue that there are at least ten, splitting the Hexanchiformes and putting the Frilled Shark into Chlamydoselachiformes and taking the Bramble Sharks out of the Squaliformes order and creating the Echinorhiniformes family.
