 PAPERMAG >> CHLOË SEVIGNY
She shows up toting a shopping bag, and by the time we go into the restaurant and sit down, I'm convinced that I'm with the wrong Chloë Sevigny.
I feel that I've witnessed the making of the Chloë myth in its entirety, so the substitution of the Chloë I'm expecting with some happy-go-lucky twin is a little surprising.
I'm expecting the avant-garde darling of alternative film; the style icon who wears Balenciaga thigh-high boots with shorty overalls from the Darien, Ct., Goodwill; Chloë the legend.

Guardian Unlimited Arts Through being cool
Sevigny is the most compelling thing about 3 Needles, a rambling and disjointed film portraying the arrival of a blood-borne epidemic, never explicitly named, in Montreal, South Africa and China.
Chloë Sevigny was famous before anyone thought to ask if she was talented.
Sevigny stings so sweetly that it often takes a moment to realise how venomous she has just been; it's not even clear that it's always intentional.

 Celebrities
When she was just a wee intern for Sassy magazine who had made an appearance in a Sonic Youth video, Chloë Sevigny had already been tagged by novelist Jay McInerney as the next "It Girl" in a seven-page essay for The New Yorker.
Natural and unaffected, Sevigny made it a point to disprove that prediction, becoming instead one of independent cinema's favorite anti-celebrities, a throwback to the era of Warhol and street stars who become commodities by refusing to become commodities.
You can also catch Sevigny in " American Psycho " based on the Bret Easton Ellis novel, and HBO's " If These Walls Could Talk 2 " in which she plays a butch dyke in 1972.

Macaulay Culkin, Seth Green, Chloë Sevigny and Wilmer Valderrama

julien donkey-boy (R; 94 min.), directed and written by Harmony Korine, photographed by Anthony Dod Mantle and starring Ewen Bremner, Werner Herzog and Chloë Sevigny, opens Friday at the Towne Theater in San Jose and the Aquarius in Palo Alto.
In the film's best scene, Sevigny is haloed in solarized light as she walks past glowing white weeds, singing a hymn about the Lamb of God.
Father is trying to make a champion Olympic wrestler out of the boy by hosing him down on freezing days, forcing him to jump on plastic trash cans and making him practice a routine in which he climbs up a carpeted staircase using only his hands.

 The Brown Bunny
“If people are sitting there watching The Brown Bunny and waiting for the motel scene, then I just can’t relate to them,” says Vincent Gallo, who directed himself in a “motel scene” where he receives head from Chloë Sevigny.
The Brown Bunny is intimate enough, and Gallo& own performance is so naked and fearless, that it’s just barely possible to believe that he’s nutty enough to have expected viewers to engage with it fully and react to it with measured thoughtfulness.
(Also, they’re keeping a small pet bunny that they claim belonged to her; Bud is skeptical, bunny lifespans being what they are.) The sequence is awkward and, in a way — her apparently age-addled father occupies a corner of the frame like a home furnishing — almost funny.

 The Brown Bunny
Gallo wrote, produced, directed, art directed, shot, edited and stars in the road-movie tale of melancholy motorcycle racer Bud Clay, driving his van across America from race to race, having a series of encounters with women named after flowers - and aiming for a fateful L.A.reunion with (and,of course, that explicit on-screen blow-job from) true-love Daisy, played by Chloë Sevigny.
Gallo now maintains that the two-hour cut of The Brown Bunny presented at Cannes was a work-in-progress only, and fair enough: Variety, which dissed the Cannes version as so much execrable "crotch-gazing" ca-ca, later found this new, re-edited 90-minute release cut to be "an astonishing improvement...a memorable exercise in personal '70s-style American filmmaking...
And, by the way, a confession: I actually rather enjoyed Gallo's original 120-minute folly. But then again, seeing it with a restive, volubly hostile, hilariously sarcastic Gallic audience was a Rocky Horror Picture Show on the Riviera I won't soon forget.

The Brown Bunny movie Review at The Z Review UK movie review
A fatally flawed film, it looks at the damaged goods of love, framing itself in the racked mind of Gallo& Bud Clay who motors cross-country in search of his inner Daisy (Chloë Sevigny), with geographical spots triggering fantasies or memories.
Its title perhaps from home and pet-shop scenes or partly as a suggested metaphor for the cuddly and safe, “The Brown Bunny” is sure to be released unrated and already generating buzz for a minute of as graphic sex as American screens bear.

 Brown Bunny, The (2004): Reviews
The Brown Bunny is one long, self-indulgent bore topped off with a hard-core porn scene featuring Gallo and co-star Chlo&.
In brief, The Brown Bunny, however antagonistic and borderline tedious, is an art work of sorts, and Gallo himself, though an egomaniac of staggering solemnity-a priest of art longing for a cult-is not a fake.
The Brown Bunny is still not a complete success -- it is odd and off-putting when it doesn't want to be -- but as a study of loneliness and need, it evokes a tender sadness.

Opposites Detract: Woody Allen's "Melinda and Melinda"
For Allen, of course, the forms are inseparable; and he makes his point with parallel storylines featuring the damaged Melinda (a double dose of Radha Mitchell) as she disrupts the life of an old school friend (Chloë Sevigny in the tragedy, Amanda Peet in the comedy).
Melinda herself, in her black lace outfits and miasma of self-destructiveness, is never more than the walking symbol of Allen's sex-and-death obsessions.
In that sense, "Melinda and Melinda" is simply a brusque rehash of creative and erotic disappointments already explored to perfection in "Husbands and Wives" and "Crimes and Misdemeanors" -- the difference is that this time Allen has chosen structure, rather than content, as his starting point.

Brandon's fatal mistake is to fall in love with Lana Tisdel (Chloë Sevigny), Mom's daughter and John's on-and-off girlfriend.
He was Teena Brandon, a confused teenager who spent a few reckless, glorious years pretending to be a boy, seducing a girl named Lana and an entire community along the way.
For better and worse, Peirce considers Brandon Teena a hero -- a girl who transcended her crummy circumstances to make just the life she wanted and was punished for it.

Trivia: After completing a Dogme 95 film, directors must write a confession to their fellow members, explaining the ways in which they have broken the Dogme "Vow of Chastity." In his Confession for julien, Korine writes that Chloë Sevigny is not really pregnant in the film; she's wearing a pillow.

CNN - 'Boys Don't Cry' filmmaker saw past violence to love - October 22, 1999
The film stars Hilary Swank as Brandon, and Chloë Sevigny as Lana.
In its finished state, "Boys Don't Cry" rides a crest of freedom as Brandon becomes the person she always wanted to be, though in the subculture of a low-income, Podunk existence.
While taking graduate film classes at Columbia in New York, she'd read in an April 1994 issue of The Village Voice about the life and death of Teena Brandon -- or Brandon Teena, as she came to be known.

The "tragic" Melinda story can be distinguished from the "comic" version by its tone (staid versus twitchy), its score (classical versus jazz) and the exhausting pitch of Melinda's neurotic self-involvement.
Oblivious, Melinda lights a cigarette, demands a single-malt Scotch and proceeds to spill her guts all over the distinguished company.

Chloë Sevigny has revealed that she's trying to land a role in "Spider-Man 3." She describes the character as a blond and buxom girl.

Bateman was murdering people before the film started—we never see a glimpse in the first half of the film that he's anything but who he says he is. His facade begins to crumble when his secretary Jean (Chloë Sevigny) shows some genuine concern for his well-being.
Bateman, as he announces at the beginning of the film, is feeling his mask of sanity slip away.
Bateman is constantly confused for other co-workers, or airily dismissed as if he's not in the room.

Still, the question in Party Monster is whether the two anti-heroes' not-niceness is sturdy enough to hang a tale upon.
Party Monster has a good deal in common with Stephen Frears' biopic of Joe Orton, Prick Up Your Ears, but the artistic legacy of Michael Alig isn't as durable as What the Butler Saw or Loot.
