  [(Alkoxycarbonyl)oxy]alkyl esters of methyldopa - Patent 4426391
Chloromethyl chloroformate and chloroethyl chloroformate can be reacted similarly with other alcohols such as t-butanol and hexanol to form 1-chloromethyl (or ethyl) t-butyl carbonate and 1-chloromethyl (or ethyl) +-butyl carbonate and 1-chloromethyl (or ethyl) hexyl carbonate.
Chloromethyl isopentyl carbonate (4.2 g) was dissolved in dry acetone (25 ml) and anhydrous sodium iodide (6.0 g) was added to it.
In the case of a t-butyl derivative, chloromethyl t-butyl carbonate rather than iodomethyl t-butyl carbonate was used in the experiment because of the instability of said corresponding iodo compound.

Process for the preparation of carbamates, thiocarbamates and ureas - Patent 4725680
Starting with 7.4 g (0.1 mole) of tert-butanol, 15.48 g of chloromethyl chloroformate and 8.1 ml of pyridine, 9.2 g (55%) of tert-butyl chloromethyl carbonate are obtained.
The procedure is as in Example 5 (a), but with 31.5 g (0.22 mole) of.alpha.-chloroethyl chloroformate introduced into a solution of 12.4 g (0.2 mole) of ethanethiol and 15.8 g (0.2 mole) of pyridine in 200 ml of dichloromethane.
28.6 g (0.2 mole) of chloroethyl chloroformate are added dropwise to a solution of 27.2 g (0.4 mole) of imidazole in 200 ml of dichloromethane cooled in a water bath.

Structure and Conformational Composition of Chloromethyl Chloroformate: An Electron-Diffraction and ab Initio Molecular Orbital Investigation
Abstract: The structure and the conformational composition of chloromethyl chloroformate, ClC(=O)-O-CH Cl, has been studied by using gas-phase electron diffraction (GED), ab initio molecular orbital calculations, and earlier published vibrational spectroscopic data.
A vibrational force field was evaluated by symmetrizing the quantum-mechanical [MP2/6-31G(d)] Cartesian force constants and scaling the results to fit the observed vibrational wavenumbers.

 Patent 6,809,079
Alternatively, hydrophobic-CGRP may be prepared by linking the N-terminal amino group of CGRP to the C-terminal carboxyl group via (acyloxy) alkoxy promoiety Boc.
In this convergent approach, this pro-peptide is reacted with 1-chloromethyl chloroformate with p-nitrophenol in the presence of N-methylmorpholine (NMM) to afford 1-Chloromethyl)-p-nitrophenyl carbonate.
Substitution of the chloride can be achieved with iodide, leading to iodo compounds with high yield.
