The rapid growth of the chlorophytes during the beginning of spring is consistent with the high photosynthetic efficiencies in early spring observed by Lizotte et al.
The small filamentous species, Stichococcus sp., was the dominant chlorophyte in the winter of 1991, however was not observed in the April sample from the previous year.
Stichococcus was one of the genera of samll chlorophytes observed to be abundant in Katterjaure by Rhode (1955).
colonial Chlorophyte (coenobium): spherical cells regularly arranged in a colonial mucilage sheath, without pseudocilia; reproduce by autospores which may remain in mother cell wall for a time: this description is same as Sphaerocystis; there is doubt about whether these genera are different.
colonial Chlorophyte (coenobium) with oval cells in groups of 4 arranged cruciately, forming a flat plate.
filamentous Chlorophyte, cell shape varies from cylindrical to elliptical, in a thick, stratified sheath, chloroplast variable; axile, stellate or parietal filling cell.

A Study of the Recently Introduced Chlorophyte Caulerpa racemosa along the South Coasts of Malta - Thesis Abstract

Thus it is important to keep on monitoring the distribution of C. racemosa both at a local and an international level.
In the context of the debate concerning the branching order of the UTC lineages, the predicted architecture of the chloroplast genome of the earliest members of the Ulvophyceae strengthens the notion that this lineage is sister to the Chlorophyceae [5,6].
However, inversions might be not the only mutational events causing gene order changes in chlorophytes cpDNAs, as transpositions have been proposed to account for some of the rearrangements observed in Campanulaceae [30] and in subclover [31] cpDNAs.
Our comparative analysis of the Oltmannsiellopsis chloroplast genome with its chlorophyte counterparts strengthens the idea that the chloroplast genomes of early-diverging ulvophytes occupy an intermediate position between those of the trebouxiophyte Chlorella and the chlorophycean green alga Chlamydomonas with respect to the retention of ancestral features [6].

Diel patterns in optical properties of the chlorophyte Nannochloris sp.: Relating individual-cell to bulk measurements
To investigate how cell growth and division affect the optical properties of phytoplankton, cultures of the chlorophyte Nannochloris were sampled over a diel cycle to measure cell size and concentration, light-beam attenuation and absorption, flow cytometric forward light scattering and chlorophyll fluorescence, and carbon content.
Because the major constituents of many phytoplankton communities are small eukaryotic cells similar to Nannochloris in cell size and division pattern, the results presented here have important consequences for the interpretation of diel variations in optical properties observed in the ocean.
Although it is comprised of individual protists, Volvox colonies can locomote through freshwater habitats, as they spin smoothly with all the flagella beating in unison.
Blooms of the chlorophyte occur in "enriched" water bodies or those that are polluted with excess levels of dissolved nitrates and phosphates, and act as an indicator organism.
As primary producers, Volvox colonies produce dissolved oxygen, and as major dietary staples for many aquatic organisms, help support the aquatic food pyramid.
from a chlorophyte algal ancestor to an apicomplexan ancestor
COXIIA and COXIIB (excluding MTS and extensions) were fused in silico as a single polypeptide and aligned with orthodox mitochondrial COXII sequences (14).
Shown are the N-terminal extensions of nuclear cox2b genes from chlorophytes and apicomplexans (blue), the conserved residues in these domains (yellow), the conserved residues found only in chlorophytes and ampicomplexans (fl background), the corresponding region of the 300-residue insertion in ciliate mitochondrial COXII (gray), and the conserved residues between ciliates and apicomplexans (bold).

Mn uptake by two phytoplankton species, the chlorophyte Scenedesmus obliquus and the small diatom Cyclotella meneghiana.
meneghiana were used to represent chlorophyte and bacillariophyte contamination, whereas kinetic rates describing a third compartment were estimated when possible.
A third compartment was evidenced only for Mn and Co, whereas, for Ag, the chlorophyte and bacillariophyte compartments were sufficient to describe the particulate phase.
