Dihydrogen hexachloroplatinate (IV) hexahydrate - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Chloroplatinic acid was popularlized for the determination of potassium.
Chloroplatinic acid is produced by dissolving platinum metal sponge in a 1:3 (v:v) solution of nitric acid and hydrochloric acid called aqua regia.(1) This reaction produces a mixture of chloroplatinous acid (H
The remaining chloroplatinous acid is then oxidized to choroplatinic acid by saturating a solution with chlorine and heating to remove any excess.

Aqua regia - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Aqua regia (Latin for "royal water") is a highly corrosive, fuming yellow or red liquid formed by a fresh mixture of concentrated nitric acid (otherwise known as aqua fortis) and concentrated hydrochloric acid, usually in a volumetric ratio of one to three.
The chloroplatinous acid can be oxidized to chloroplatinic acid by saturating the solution with chlorine while heating.
Hydrochloric acid was first discovered around the year 800 by the Islamic alchemist Jabir Ibn Hayyan (Geber), by mixing common salt with vitriol (sulfuric acid).

 Palladium/Platinum Catalyst Preparation FAQ
Place 3.0 g of ammonium chloroplatinate and 30 g of sodium nitrate (AnalaR) (Note 4) in a Pyrex beaker or porcelain dish and heat gently at first until the evolution of gas slackens and then more strongly until a temperature of 300 °C is reached.
By the new procedure a given weight of ammonium chloroplatinate is well mixed with ten times its weight of powdered sodium nitrate, and the mixture is heated gradually to the fusion point.
It is advisable to test a small portion of the filtrate from platinum by acidifying with hydrochloric acid and adding a few drops of SnCl2 solution: a yellow or brown colour develops according to the quantity of platinum present.

Determination of C 1s Core Level Chemical Shifts in Some Langmuir-Blodgett Films Using a Modified Sanderson Formalism
The modified Sanderson (MS) formalism for calculation of partial charge on atoms has been shown to yield extremely good correlation between the atomic partial charge in organic molecules and core level binding energies determined using X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS).
The MS approach is used to determine partial charges on the carbons in Langmuir-Blodgett (LB) films of lead arachidate and chloroplatinic acid-octadecylamine complexes and from the atomic charges, expected C 1s chemical shifts.
Fits to the C 1s core level spectra from the different LB films agree within experimental error with those predicted by the MS calculation.
