The Chmmr expressed this when they claimed, "The process is incomplete yet we emerge." However, given how long the Process would have taken, it is likely the Kohr-Ah would have exterminated them long before it could have been properly completed.
The Chmmr commanded the powerful Avatar battleships in combat during the Second War and were a major driving force behind the Second Alliance's victory.

The Chmmr is a race with a collective consciousness, they are one mind.
"The Process" made the Chmmr what they are today and even though the Mmrnmrm were individually sentient as were the Chenjesu the Chmmr are a single conscious that doesn't appear to show much signs of either of the races aside from the bio/mechanical aspects.
It has been suspected that the Chmmr do have personality, but they need time to readjust to the Process and maybe the fast formation of the Chmmr caused them to have no personalities at all.

Inundating the Chmmr with fire means that the pods spend all of their efforts picking off a few errant shots and miss the rest of them, or worse, fly right through them in their zeal to protect the mothership.

I had my friend shoot a few over some months back (Property of the Crimson Corporation, Through the Angles of Space), but I didn't realize there was a larger source until somebody on a forum tipped me off.
The Yehat theme was a favorite of mine, as well as the Chmmr.
