This was an all night possession spirit raising ceremony, will have to write about it when more time but the magician brought up three gaurdian angels to the endless sound of kantrum.
It was the first time in 12 years this village had done this ceremony so quite rare I think, very weird but at least no chicken heads cut off.I got the shits which is not a good idea in an issan village in the middle of nowhere, urgh.

So it would appear that drumming was an important aspect of traditional music for Khmer, Lao, Thai and perhaps Vietnamese also.
