I was drawn to Chobits by the wonderful animation, the interesting plot, and by the very funny moments early on.
Chobits is about a young man, Hideki Motosuwa, 18, who has failed his college entrance exams and moves to the city to study at a cram school.
The human characters in Chobits have realistic emotions and almost everyone should be able to relate to the drama going on.

An important pice of the Chobits Story is a series of books, which are written about the main character, called A City With No People.
Chii is a persocom and a Chobit (a super persocom that posesses emotions) which Hideki found tied up in a pile of trash on his way home from work one night.
She was the second chobit produced by the Hibiya couple.

Chobits was easily one of the very moving anime I have seen and it really reminds me of Blade Runner.
Chobits delt with human/robot interaction and the fear of robots coming to be almost to human.
Chobits on the other hand had characters that had some real pain and past, I like how every character had issues of their own instead of just being a fill-in roles for Chii and Hideki.

Chobits takes place in the near future, where Motosuwa Hideki, an average, eighteen-year-old student has just failed his University entrance exam and must attend cram school in Tokyo.
Hideki is just an average student, and his character is a bit cliched in its portrayal.
His character constantly changes, however, and he starts to show real depth in the last few episodes.

Unlike in Chobits, Chi is presented as an artificial lifeform instead of a robot, and her ears have a more organic look similar to a fox.

Of all the characters, she is the most consistently entertaining, as she also participates in Chii's learning process, and has a dance that accompanies just about all of her functions.
Most of the human characters display emotions that are very real, and exhibit well-rounded personalities, which adds an element of believability to the show.
Overall, the chicks offered up in Chobits are quite pleasing to the eyes, and enough of their anatomy is revealed periodically to keep carnal desires near the forefront of the viewing experience for most of the show.

The first two volumes of "Chobits" were spent introducing characters, the idea of Chobits as a legendary free-will Persocon series, and giving time for Chi to learn basic interaction and living skills.
To recap, "Chobits" follows 18-year-old farm boy Hideki Motosuwa, who happens to find a uniquely powerful Persocon (human-like robots that have achieved cellphone-like status and popularity) in the trash; she can only say "Chi" at first (thus her name) but begins to learn new words and ideas at a tremendous rate.
Chi's character also gains more depth, as she begins to associate with the main character of the book, a vaguely veiled Persocon wandering lonely in a city full of happy, un-alone humans.

 Pulp Film - Chobits
In Chobits, CLAMP gave up all pretenses and went straight for romance, and there is nary a fast-moving action scene to be found anywhere in this series, so while I did not expect anything spectacular in the animation and sound department, I feel that nothing stood out, either.
Her character is thus a natural for development, and she does grow during the series, albeit a bit too slowly for my taste (she takes 5-6 episodes to learn to say anything besides “Chii” and Hideki’s phone number).
Chobits has a rich collection of characters, and most of them will get fleshed out to the point that you feel you know them.

While some of the characters, most notably the various persocoms, have original and interesting character designs, a lot of the Human designs are very contrived.
All of these supporting characters are very unique, and their separate stories are just as interesting as the main characters.
Chobits is certainly not a bad manga if you don’t mind plodding through a slow first half, but because of its many flaws, I can’t describe it as anything better than mediocre.

At its heart, Chobits is a sweet story, although I honestly never did appreciate the “man loves robot” scenario, and as such, had a hard time understanding both Hideki’s different decisions and the immense fanbase of this anime.
Fortunately, he has plenty of help along the way, and there are lots of other characters in Chobits for him and Chii to get to know.
The plot of Chobits really takes a backseat to the development of the relationship between Hideki and Chii (as well as Hideki and all the people in his life), but it is there, slow and subtle.

Most of Clamp's works tend to be in some way or another a variant of the magical girl genre, with the exception perhaps of the X series and movie.
Chobits infuses a much needed breath of fresh air into their repertoire, being a romantic comedy devoid of apocalyptic themes, a daily supply of monsters, and constant facing off with enemies.
Chobits is basically about a guy and his persocomm, in this case Hideki and Chii.

As is typical for this group, the to-die-for artwork is accompanied by an astoundingly complex and subtle plot, with many twists and turns, and a warmth and heart that is true classic CLAMP.
