Chojnice (Conitz, Konitz) is a town in northern Poland with 40,600 inhabitants (2000), near famous Tuchola Forests, Lake Charzykowskie and many other water reservoirs.
Situated in the Pomeranian Voivodship (since 1999 and before 1975), previously in Bydgoszcz Voivodship (1975-1998), capital of the Chojnice County.

Jesuits came to Chojnice in 1620 founded by two Dorengowski brothers; the first, Jan who was the head of the church court of Kamieńsk and the rector of the Chojnice parish, and the other who was the judge of Tczew who after his death was buried near the Chojnice parish church (fara).
The Augustinians monastery was established in Chojnice in 1265, during the reign of Pomerania Princes.

The Battle of Chojnice (Battle of Conitz) occurred on September 18, 1454 by the town of Chojnice between Poland and the Teutonic Knights during the Thirteen Years' War, it was won by the latter.
They hadn't thought that opponent could change their traditional strategy, or that the Teutonic soldiers besieged in Chojnice could be anything more than spectators.
Bernard Szumborski managed to release himself and organised pursuit; hundreds of Poles, including Piotr from Szczekociny, were killed during the rout or drowned in nearby marsh.
