	Cholatse - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
		Cholatse (also known as Jobo Lhaptshan) is a mountain in the Khumbu region of the Nepalese Himalaya.
		Cholatse is connected to Taboche (6,501m) by a long ridge.
		Cholatse was first climbed via the southwest ridge on April 22, 1982 by Vern Clevenger, Galen Rowell, John Roskelley and Bill O'Connor.

		Twenty-nine-year-old Ueli Steck from Switzerland exported the “enchainment” concept from the Alps to the Himalaya this spring, attempting to solo three difficult north faces in the Everest region.
		Psychologically drained by the Cholatse climb, Steck rested for more than a week in basecamp and then soloed the East Face of 21,342-foot Tawoche, choosing a relatively moderate ice line on the left side of the face over the dangerously loose rock wall on the right.
		Steck raced up that face in just four and a half hours; it was the first solo ascent of the peak, and thought to be the first ascent by any climber in seven years.

		There'd been confusion about the two ajacent faces, and which routes went where, and Kear and Hobby thought they were on an unclimbed face.
		Tomaz Humar and team made the same mistake with their springtime (pre-monsoon) ascent on Cholatse, thinking it new but then it was discovered that they, too, had mostly repeated the 84 route.

	Two New Nepali Routes
		Their first climb was a second ascent of Kyajo Ri via a new route amd their second was of the East Face of Cholatse.
		According to Climbing.com, Hobby and Kear tackled Kyajo Ri first, climbing the ridge (5.9 A13), descended the Southwest Ridge and then returned to high camp.
		They then moved over to Cholatse, following an ice line up the East Face, climbing the new 1,800-meter route in three days (W15+ M6).

		In only six days after arriving in Base Camp, our Sight to Summit team was able to secure a spectacular Camp II location on Cholatse's southwest ridge at 18,200 feet.
