Choluteca -Geographical Location: Situated in the south of the republic of Honduras, Choluteca is bound by the provinces of Francisco Morazan and El Paraiso in the north, by the Republic of Nicaragua in the east, and by the department of Valle and the Gulf of Fonseca in the south.
This region of Choluteca is characterized by its high population and also houses one of the poorer segments of its society, most of the local structures being that of adobe and tiles.
Firstly, because a singly-owned large acreage of land is hard to obtain in Choluteca (this land, belonging to Bank Occidental, was located eight kilometres from the old city), and secondly because it is relatively flat ground, naturally protected by a barricade of mountains on three sides, this area is ideally situated.

Choluteca in general is pretty hot and dry, although right now we're in the end of the rainy season and there's plenty of rain everyday.
It is located in the southern part of the country in the department of Choluteca ('Cholu-texas' - it's hot, dry, and unless you're from there you think it's probably a not-so-nice place to live, just like its US namesake).
Recently a friend of mine, who attends school down in the 'big city' of Choluteca, has formed a group of about 20 students who are in the public health track in high school who want to start giving AIDS charlas to other schools.

One hundred women and men in northern Choluteca — about 20 from each of five communities -- are taking part in this Church World Service-supported Food Security project to increase the amount of food available for their families.

A long-time resident of the southern Honduran community of Marcovia, near the city of Choluteca, Matamoros has moved all of her belongings outside under a tarp, not far from damaged melon and corn fields.
Matamoros and her two grandchildren are trying to make do by selling candies and dried fruits to passers-by, but there aren't that many customers; the road they stand on is a mess of rock, sand and dried mud, and getting through isn't easy.
The need to reclaim a sense of normalcy after worlds have been destroyed is alternately heartening and heart-wrenching: a man in the Tegucigalpa neighborhood of Las Vegas discovers his television set, but groans as water and mud pour out the back; two neighbors scrub a muddy sofa in the vain hope it can be saved.
