The trails in the Ulu Klang water catchment area were among the first jungle trails that I had ever biked on, way back in 1993 with my friends Sha and Man. Unfortunately, years of disuse had allowed overgrowth and erosion.
It emerges at the Sungai Chongkak recreational area, about 1km North of Kampung Batu 18, on the Ulu Langat road.
To drop a car at the exit in Sungai Chongkak: go to Ulu Langat by your favourite way (the best would be over the pass at the back of Ampang town).
Kemensah — Chongkak 14km point to point bisecting the reserve, starting at Kemensah and ending in Sg Chongkak in Ulu Langat.
The Sungai Chongkak recreational area is the exit point for the Kemensah-Sg Chongkak trail, which can also be ridden in reverse, although less of it will be rideable this way.
To get to Sungai Chongkak, head North on the Ulu Langat road (B18); at Pekan Batu 18 continue straight on past the right turn over the bridge to Genting Peres.

This was, in fact, born out as we moved further south and it became apparent that absolutely p*ssing it down was a regular afternoon show in these parts.
That evening after dinner we were introduced to the joys of Chongkak: a Malaysian game whose distinguishing features include its ability to last years (or minutes) and its utter addictiveness.
Without getting too much into the intricacies, you have seven villages, each with seven villagers (marbles) and the aim is to win over as many villagers as possible thus burning your opponents villages.

For more secluded picnic and bathing spots, travel along the Kuala Lumpur-Hulu Langat road to reach the Sungai Chongkak Recreational Forest, Sungai Lallang Recreational Forest, Sungai Gabai Waterfalls, Sungai Tekala Waterfalls, and Sungai Batangsi Waterfalls.
On the same road to Sungai Chongkak in Hulu Langat district, is the refreshing site of the Sungai Gabai Waterfalls.
Several falls cascade down over 100 meters, culminating in a broad, photogenic plunge into a series of small pools suitable for swimming.
Forty Discovery Rangers, together with 12 leaders went on an overnight campout at Ecotouria Resort, Sungai Chongkak, Ulu Langat, Selangor on the 18 and 19 November 2005.
The Rangers were taught various camping skills before spending the night in tents.
The next morning, after devotion and parade, the Rangers went on a challenging river hike up Sungai Chongkak.

When i was young, my friends and I collect- as young children love to do, these hard red seeds and use them for 'chongkak' the traditional malay game.
Took some photos, but only 1 turned out ok. This photo reminded me of a child's windmill-stick toy, because of the way the saga pods and its seeds form a ringlets branching out from a broken twig of the tree.
What i have in my mind is to take a shot of a saga pod while its still attached to a tree branch (god knows how i'm gonna do this?), add this one shot i've already taken, and the third subject shall be just the seeds in the chongkak board.

They have Merinda there which is highly prized for its medicinal qualities - later that evening we tried some of the fruit juice - Hint - if you ever get to sample this DON'T SMELL IT before you taste it or it might very well put you off!!
At Suka Suka we learnt how to play the local game called Chongkak - this is the most fun and addictive game ever using a wooden board and some marbles - sounds simple and it is easy to pick up, you just never want to finish playing!!
Might have to commission a certain cousin of mine to producing one for moi?!?
The latter has accommodation and camping facilities for the adventurous.
