  AGH 5200 Review -- Choplifter!
The 5200 Choplifter!'s decent animation and graphics are reminiscent of the 400/800 cartridge, but the two-button action from the original Apple II game has been restored, thanks to the 5200 controller's two button joystick.
In Choplifter!, you direct an armed helicopter, which forays across the border into hostile enemy territory.
The object of the mission is to rescue as many of the American hostages as possible and bring them back to safety in U.S grounds.

Choplifter - Biocrawler   (Site not responding. Last check: )
While many arcade games have been ported to home computers and consumer consoles, Choplifter was one of the few games to take the reverse route: first appearing on a home system and being ported to the arcade.
This game was fairly successful and popular, spawning two sequels: Choplifter II for the Nintendo Game Boy and Choplifter III for the Super Nintendo.
In Choplifter, in both the Apple II version and the arcade game, the player assumes the role of a combat helicopter pilot.

AGH -- Choplifter On The Atari Systems: Which One Is Best?
Choplifter is available in different versions on four of the Atari 8-bit systems...
Excuse me but with the classic Choplifter, my adrenaline is still going at 150MPH when I need to save my hostages treatened by a tank while at the same time I must escape a fighter and a satellite!
Finally, Choplifter plays better on the 8-bit Atari but if somebody could find the "not sure to exist" 2600 prototype version, then we could add another chapter to this saga.

Choplifter sounds simple enough… you fly a helicopter, you have a gun (that shoots little pellet things that are supposed to be bullets, I guess), and you have to kill enemies and rescue hostages.
Choplifter is also an oddity because it's one of the few games that was ported from a home computer to the arcade (usually it's the other way around).
Sega released an arcade version of Choplifter in 1985 (the original was released in '82), and Choplifter 3 was released for the SNES.

"Choplifter" was intended to be a 3-D game, but I got real and made it a side-scroller.
I was always trying to write object-oriented programs, even with "Choplifter," but assembly language macros just didn't cut it.
It's not high concept in the way that "Choplifter" is, but rather a kind of art piece.

It's interesting to note that Choplifter de-emphasizes destruction -- sure, you can blow enemy emplacements sky-high for as long as you want, but you only earn points (and advance between stages) for successful rescues.
The one odd playability quirk of Choplifter is the scrolling -- for some reason, unless you're cruising at top speed, the front edge of the screen drifts perilously close to the nose of your chopper and only gives you a decent visual clearance when you pick up speed.
Unfortunately, while most of the mechanics are in place there's no way to turn your chopper 90 degrees and face into the screen, one of the more interesting elements of the game.
