Chorley is also linked with the American town of Duxbury, Massachusetts which was named after a part of the town and founded by one of the towns most famous sons, Myles Standish.
Chorley had a population of 33,424 as of the 2001 census, with the wider borough of Chorley having a population of 101,991.
Chorley is near to the towns of Preston, Blackburn, Bolton, Leyland, Ormskirk and Wigan.

Chorley FM is a radio station based in Chorley, Lancashire, England.
Then in September 9, 2005, Chorley FM was awarded a five-year licence to broadcast round the clock to the local community.
Shortly after being granted their licence, the Chorley FM team created a competition in association with the Chorley Citizen newspaper, asking members of the community to design a logo for the station to use throughout it's life, which was won by then 15 year old, Rhys Griffiths.

The genuine Chorley FM, which won a local radio licence from Ofcom last week, is not amused and claims Phil McIntyre Entertainment, the production company that made the shows, tried to buy the station at a knock-down price.

C'mon, Chorley is a small Lancashire town, albeit quite afluent in some areas, can anyone really see the need for such a station when another local station is going to open within a year of this one?
If I remember rightly Chorley FM is a community licence aimed specifically at the Gay and Transgender community of Chorley.
I think the new Preston, Chorley, Leyland licence will have a wider appeal and I would be surprised if they covered this market at all.

This will act as an advert for our main exhibition of the year, the 'Annual Exhibition'.Which will be held at Astley Hall Chorley during the month of May 2006.
We had a wonderful open evening at the event in June which was attended by over 50 people.An interesting addition to our exhibition was the work we undertook as part of a lottery project with young people from the local youth club.

Now he's achieved a measure of fame by being the first person in the UK to be convicted of using unlicensed radio gear to re-transmit webcasts offline.
Chorley magistrates heard that officers from Britain's Radiocommunications Agency, in the Chorley area on 18 November 2001, monitored radio transmissions from a station identifying itself as 'Dodgy FM' and which was later traced to Allridge's address.

Then again the new Central Lancs station will be on 96.3fm in Chorley - the same as Coast FM, 0.2 from Radio Wave and 0.2 from BBC Cumbria - I hope that they get a much weaker signal from Wave and Cumbria than you do in Preston!
102.8 is getting battered by a mixture of Signal 1 and Key here with the ultra strong 102.4 Wish FM signal from a few miles away splattering all over it good measure.
Oh well, I'm sure I'll manage without Chorley FM, I don't think I'm in its target audience group anyway.
