Chorus by Erasure (lyrics & reviews)
For all its disco glitter, "Chorus," the fifth studio album from Erasure, is a pretty moody affair.
Chorus~ Erasure is on par with their first album.
Other albums may have stronger singles-it is hard to beat the one-two punch of Drama and Blue Savannah, or Chains of Love and A Little Respect, but this was the first Erasure CD that didn't feel like a collection of singles and b-sides.

Erasure's 1989 album, Wild, and its singles "Blue Savanah" and "Star," illustrated the growing strength and diversity of Andy and Vince's songwriting, pairing chilling ballads with Latin rhythms and bruised electro/psychodrama.
For their ninth studio album, Erasure, released in 1995, Vince and Andy were in a more experimental mode, musically and vocally.
With the debut of Nightbird (Mute), a title referring to Bell’s insomnia, Clarke and Bell have crafted a classic Erasure album which is sure to excite long-time fans and attract a whole new generation of listeners to their melodic and moving synth pop.

It may not be the favorite Erasure album among dance-pop enthusiasts, but it's definitely the Erasure album that is meant to be taken seriously.
When Erasure released "Chorus" in 1991, they were the number one band in the UK and one of the most successful synth pop groups of the era.
Erasure would survive the early grunge years, releasing several more hits and topping the LP charts twice more before the arrival of Oasis and the guitar-based Britpop movement stalled their career with the release of their eponymously titled "Erasure" album in 1995.

Erasure has never released a bad album...it is just that all of the albums haven't necessarily gone mainstream.
Erasure is not a band that will release an album with one good single just to make a million dollars like many of today's artists.
Having heard Erasure's attempts at acoustic versions of their songs prior to working on this album ("Sono Luminus" in particular, which, in its original form, is excellent), I figured all of the "Union Street" tunes would sound just as terrible.

 Erasure: album reviews and ratings
With their bouncy synths, ebullient melodies and tales of lost loves and boyhood crushes, Erasure have over the years become the '90s equivalent of the Village People--a frothy band whose heavy gay subtext still eludes the hordes of screaming young fans yearning for summertime tales of high school love.
Rest assured, however, that though this is an album glutted with delicate acoustic plucking and heartfelt vocals, there's a gleeful absence of narcissistic stool-roosting and mawkish tortured angst.
This is Erasure stripped down to the bare essentials; and almost contradictorily, it uncovers what's most essential about the band to begin with.

Nightbird, Erasure's first album of new and original material since 2000's rather disappointing Loveboat, sees the boys enter a new stage in their long partnership with a self-produced, well-crafted slice of pure synth loveliness, which squashes any rumours that Andy and Vince are no longer the purveyors of fine pop they once were.
Erasure return to the synth pop sound that helped them sell over 25 million records in the late eighties and early nineties, mixing infectious disco and electro infused beats and melodies, with singer, Andy Bell's choir boy like vocals.
Erasure is a perfect subject for such a debate.

The Abba album i'm referring to is "The Visitors", a dark, brooding analysis of destructive relationships and tormented love affairs.
While "Nightbird" is clearly Erasure with the trademark synths and rich emotive vocals, gone is the campness of yore, the sense of fun and mischievous undercurrent you'd expect from such an entertaining duo who've been together for almost twenty years.
The chorus has a sing a long quality which would make a fine candidate for the duo's next hit single (fingers crossed).

Erasure's success with club audiences is perhaps primarily due to the quality of their music, but they have also gained abundant respect due to vocalist Andy Bell's proud defiance of cultural homophobia.

Erasure : Chorus - Listen, Review and Buy at ARTISTdirect
No longer making a big American splash outside of its fanbase and alternative radio -- and about to be turned into yesterday's news thanks to the techno/hardcore explosion -- Erasure on Chorus concentrated on just sounding like itself.
"Chorus" itself is another great Erasure anthem, Clarke providing just the right combination of beat and melody for Bell's surprisingly effective tackling of environmental degredation.
Happily, rather than revamping the basic ballad format often used on earlier albums, Clarke keeps throwing in unexpected touches while Bell comes up with some inspired and often affecting lyrics.

1991's CHORUS was a transitional album, as Erasure built on the musical and lyrical advances of 1989's WILD!
The title track, a danceclub hit in both England and the United States, is a delight, but the more ruminative "Am I Right?" and "Breath of Life" are sturdier songs.
Aside from the delightful tribute EP ABBA-ESQUE and the singles collection POP!, this was Erasure's last release for over three years.
