Chosen People Ministries, a Jews for Jesus-type organization whose adherents number barely 100 in Toronto and Montreal, says it is merely trying to formalize a logo it has been using for years on its stationery, books, brochures and even baseball caps.
It alleges that Chosen People Ministries' stock-in-trade is deception and the aggressive proselytizing of Jews.
Allowing Chosen People Ministries to use a menorah as its logo, CJC claims, would sow confusion among Jews and gentiles alike, not to mention cheapen the symbol's significance.
