Chough numbers are holding their own with a moderate decline of 8% in the last 10 years.
The Chough is a scarce member of the crow family, confined mostly to the northern and western coasts of Ireland.
Choughs are similar in size to jackdaws, but are easily distinguishable by their blood-red legs and bill, which is slightly down-curved.

The eggs are three to six in number and laid in April or May. They are spotted, not always densely, with various shades of brown and grey on a creamy or slightly tinted ground.

The project's success is largely due to the efforts of Paul Carter who has built a special cliff-top aviary for the birds at a secret location.
It is hoped the chicks can be released into the wild within three years to help bring the bird known as the King of the Crows back to the coast of Cornwall.
