Brubeck - Family Affair by Seth Rogovoy
But there's a lot more to "Brubeck," not the least which is that Dave Brubeck is only the best known of a very creative Brubeck clan which includes his wife and songwriting partner, Iola, and his musical sons Darius, Chris, Dan, and Matthew.
While Dave Brubeck and his sons are perhaps most noted for their work as jazz musicians and composers, one overlooked aspect of their talent is specifically that as songwriters.
Brubeck's songwriting, which owes as much to Kurt Weill and the Brill Building as it does to his father, has a sad, mournful quality, which von Stade renders without unnecessary sentimentality.

MusicTeachers.co.uk Online Journal - Reviews - CD review of Bach to Brubeck
Brubeck is no Mahler, Shostakovich or Milhaud, yet there is something that makes his music equally appealing — his mastery of orchestration, evident on just about every track on the disc, displays such an exotic taste for colour and effect that it sets his music apart from many of his contemporaries.
Brubeck's own Concerto for Bass Trombone and Orchestra...sparkles with an overpowering sense of humour and feather-bedecked glamour, and has neither of the cynical utterances of William Bolcom nor the introspective cries of the more restrained Aaron Copland.
Brubeck is evidently a chip-off-the-old-block when it comes to playing jazz, and both written and improvised solos, especially the 'foggy-morning' one of the trombone concerto's second movement or the opening cadenza of the last, are sensitively executed with a superb technical ability and sense of style.

That doesn't happen in most families!" DeMicco's guitar solo on this one was an ear-pleasing mixture of single-line playing and chordal chunking, and I loved watching the calm concentration on his face and the way he occasionally moved his mouth in sync with a particular line he was playing.
