Chris was born on 8 August 1983 in Bloemfontein, South Africa.
He has been playing badminton since the age of 10 and has represented the SA National Protea team since 2001, when he became the youngest male to receive national colours for badminton.
Chris is studying accounting at the University of the Free State, RSA.

The men's final was fought out between top-seeded Chris Dednam and number three seed Wiaan Viljoen with Dednam also dropping a set before winning 21-19 17-21 21-19 in a very tight encounter that resulted in a third title in a row for Dednam.
Dednam paired up with his brother Roelof to win the men's doubles also for a third time in succession, beating Viljopen and Dorian James (WP) in a rematch of last year's final (21-14 21-7).

Greg Nicol, who was a key member of the EP hockey team before returning to Natal, is also included in the side.

On May 1, the cut-off date for qualifying for the Olympic Games, Michelle Edwards, the South African women's champion had a world ranking of 58 while Nocsa's criteria was a ranking of 50 or better.
Similarly, the world ranking of the mixed double's team Chris Dednam and Antoinette Uys was 39 while Nocsa's criteria was a ranking of 30 or better.
It is now up to Nocsa to decide whether to put their money on badminton for the 2004 Olympics.

Elena Johnson and Paul Le Tocq were not expected to remain into the draw beyond two rounds, but they knew they were capable of pulling off an upset and carried out their game plan to perfection against Chris Dednam and Kerry-Lee Harrington at the Melbourne Exhibition Centre.
If any were needed, Johnson said she had been given extra motivation before they got on court.
