Sen. Dodd to Decide on Joining 2008 Race, AP Interview: Sen. Chris Dodd to Decide on Join Growing Democratic ...
Chris Dodd said Tuesday he plans to have "a conversation with the mirror" over the Christmas holidays to decide whether he'll join a growing field of Democratic presidential contenders.
Dodd is little known outside Washington and his home state, despite a long Senate career and a two year stint as chairman of the Democratic National Committee from 1995-96, where he traveled the country raising money for candidates.
Dodd voted in favor of the 2002 resolution authorizing military invasion in Iraq, a vote he now calls "a mistake." He leaves Friday for a weeklong tour of several countries in the Middle East, including Iraq.

 CNN.com - Dodd considering 2008 presidential bid - May 23, 2006
Dodd is the senior Democrat on the Senate Committee on Rules and Administration, which has jurisdiction over policy matters but largely is viewed as an administrative panel with authority over issues such as assigning parking spaces on Capitol Hill.
Dodd also considered running for Senate minority leader in 2004 after the defeat of Sen. Tom Daschle, D-South Dakota, but quickly decided against it when Senate Minority Whip Harry Reid, D-Nevada, declared he had enough votes to succeed Daschle.
Dodd told the Hartford newspaper he plans "to do all the things that are necessary to prepare to seek the presidency in 2008," such as hiring campaign staff and traveling to key states to gauge support for a potential candidacy.

Dodd, however, was not only actively hostile to Reagan’s policy of defeating militarily and politically the Soviet’s Central American proxies he even aligned himself with the very same proxies, regardless of the fact that they detested America and intended to set the whole of Latin America alight.
Dodd’s record shows that he has never stood for liberty and democracy in Latin America and it is sickeningly dishonest of him to suggest otherwise.

 Father's Day in the U.S. Senate - Politics - MSNBC.com
Chris Dodd has fond memories of coming to the Capitol for the first time in 1953 for his father, Thomas Dodd's, swearing-in to the U.S. House.
While Chris Dodd was in the Peace Corps in 1967, his father was censured by the Senate and then, in 1970, lost his bid for re-election.
Looking back on the censure almost 40 years later, Chris Dodd says he still views it as a "miscarriage of justice," but has refrained over the years from encouraging senators who wanted to pass a resolution to exonerate him.

Dodd, you may recall, is a former chairman of the Democratic National Committee, yet he is now showing open disdain for Democratic voters in his own state, and threatening to back Sen. Joe Lieberman, even as Lieberman today declared that he is leaving the Democratic Party.
Dodd, knowing he was going to lose the Democratic primary, dropped out of the race and ran as an independent in the general against Democratic nominee Duffey and Republican nominee Lowell Weicker.
Dodd’s disdain for Democratic primary voters and selfish backstabbing of his own party threw the race to the Republicans.

Dodd said of Byrd, "You would have been a great senator at any moment....you would have been right at the founding of this country, right during the Civil War....I can't think of a single moment in this nation's 220+ year history where you would not have been a valuable asset to this country."
Dodd said that unless the Republicans address the issue of race relations head on, "they're going to pay an awful price politically and it hurts the country terribly in my view."
Dodd agreed that the Republicans should make the decision about Lott but added that if the senator were to stay, a move to censure him "takes on more of a reality."

CHRIS WALLACE, FOX NEWS: Just 70 hours after senators cut a deal on judges this week, Democrats tied the Senate in knots over the nomination of John Bolton to be U.N. ambassador.
DODD: Well, first of all, I'm far more optimistic that we can be creative and work something out where the Senate can get the information it deserves to have, and we'll be able to avoid extending further the need to invoke cloture or to oppose cloture.
Fired, Chris -- not just where he disagreed with them but fired because they wouldn't provide him with the intelligence he wanted to have on a speech he was going to give to the Heritage Foundation and some testimony he wanted to provide on different occasions.

Chris Dodd's White House Surprise - The Fix
Catching much of the political world by surprise, Sen. Chris Dodd said Monday he is taking the steps to run for president in 2008, a move that makes the Connecticut Democrat the sixth senator from his party to float a potential a national candidacy.
Dodd's leadership PAC -- Citizens for Hope, Responsibility, Independence and Service (CHRIS PAC -- ugh!) -- collected $34,000 in the first three months of the year and had $111,000 in the bank at the end of March.
Dodd might be the top dog in his state, but in a head to head to head to head matchup against all the other Democrats running for president, he might be lucky to be a VP for 2008.

Dodd may be less interested in protecting democracy in Venezuela than in settling old scores with Reich.

Dodd being elected president is only slightly more likely than me taking over Joseph Ratzinger’s current position.
Josh said “only slightly more likely.” Therefore, although it is true that “for Dodd there is certainly a non-zero possibility that he could be elected president,” if the possibility is, say, 0.5% (seems about right, if not a bit high), I think that could accurately be described as “only slightly more likely” than 0.0%.
