Gaylor was besotted by drumming after hearing the Rolling Stones' classic Paint It Black at age seven.
Gaylor believes the band survived its recent brush with MTV glitz because of the sobering effects of touring keyboardist Tim Jordan's suicide last year and their loyalty to their upbringing in the humble, tornado-belt town of Stillwater.

Chris: Mike used to have a band called Euclid Crash back in our hometown and they played a couple of shows with the Rejects with their old drummer when they were a three-piece band, and they were looking for another guitar player to fill out the sound more.
Chris: We haven't had enough time off to see ourselves on TV or have people recognize us in the mall or something like that.
Chris: Since both of us actually listen to a lot of punk rock and stuff like that, we both like the music and the bands, and we can say that easily because we didn't even know the guys when they wrote the songs and recorded the album.

Then again, it all depends on what your definition of "MTV band" is. For some, it's a band with heavily produced, major-label music that gets promoted with eye-catching million-dollar videos serving the most basic and immediate of pop needs.
For Rejects drummer Chris Gaylor, 27, an "MTV band" translates into the goth-punk-emo movement of the moment, and although he mentioned no specifics, it's hard not to think of bands like 30 Seconds to Mars and My Chemical Romance.
Currently on the road in their biggest headlining tour to date with a pop-punk-tastic lineup, Gaylor said he's not afraid of the band getting huge, which can become the tipping point when many lose focus.
