Because there is no atmospheric pressure in space, Hadfield and other astronauts have to go through a pressurization procedure in the shuttle airlock to prepare for their EVA, in order to keep their body fluids in a liquid state.
Once the manipulator was freed from the shuttle by the original Canadarm, Hadfield and Parazynski put months of simulations into use and removed a series of 32 smaller jackbolts that hold eight large "superbolts" in place.
Chris Hadfield has finished 4 years of training to prepare for the installation of the Canadarm on the ISS.
