Chris Huhne was first elected Westminster MP for Eastleigh in May 2005 and within months he became runner-up in the contest for leadership of the Liberal Democrats following the resignation of Charles Kennedy in January 2006.
Chris is married to Vicky Pryce, Chief Economist at the Department of Trade and Industry.
Chris and his wife are both passionate filmgoers, and Chris says he is an eclectic listener to music, enjoying anything from rock and jazz to his favourite, Mozart.

Huhne was elected as a member of the European Parliament for South East England from 1999 to 2005, where he was deputy leader of the Liberal Democrat group in the European Parliament.
Huhne does however support the creation of a Palestinian state, and was critical of the Iraq War and of the Blair government's overall handling of the War on Terror.
Huhne was able to carve out a unique position on the issue of green taxation - Huhne argued for a radical expansion of taxes on pollution, allowing for reductions in the income tax rate on the lowest paid [1].

Chris Huhne is the sensible fellow, whose private life is in good order (so far as any of us know) and whose biggest drawback is his relative anonymity.
Mr Huhne says he meant it when he said it, but he was later persuaded to change his mind, and Sir Menzies generously did not hold him to his promise.
It is a long shot but just possibly Mr Huhne could be remembered as the man who took on the leadership of his party just 10 months after his career as an MP began.

I’m happy to say that Chris Huhne isn’t anything like as obsessive as me, but he is the only candidate on offer who has an active interest - and a platform - on all these issues.

Whether this is the Huhne backers who apparently placed several thousand pounds worth of bets to create their candidate’s lead position or not I don’t know.
There was an early swing to Chris when he announced that he was standing.
