Chris Jones: AGS is programmed in C, because it's the language that I know best and is also probably the language that generates the fastest code at present.
Chris Jones: Well, I haven't used AGAST or IndyJava extensively so I may be wrong here -- but as far as I know neither of them comes with an IDE for developing games -- it all has to be done with their scripting language.
AGS does have an IDE, however one of its current problems is that the Windows port of the engine is relatively new and still has some quirky bugs, whereas the other engines were designed for Windows from the start.

The new version supports graphics filters to allow games to be played at higher resolutions than the game is written for, which will be helpful for those who have monitors or graphics cards that don't support some resolutions.
