Chris Shiflett once again proves his poor character
Shiflett is there to educate Hardened is coming at it from the internal PHP side.
I enjoyed shiflett's book, it was a "Consumers Guide" to PHP Security, short and easy to read focused at people who are most likely to make security mistakes, it could have focused a little more on some issues, but it would certainly put a "seeker" well on the way to enlightenment.

Chris and Scott Shiflett , Steve Watson
It seem that not only is it a story of two brothers making it in the music industry, but how they were both inspired by each other and an older brother that I'm not sure many of us have ever heard of, and a stepbrother who has been there from the start.
While they have side project that allow them to play together, on a day to day basis they aren't in the same band, and are often thousands of miles apart yet still take the time out to keep in touch.
Much of the information I have about Scott Shiflett came from Scott and Chris Shiflett, and lots of thanks to Chris Bernhard of the Official Face to Face news letter for asking Scott all my questions.

Review: Essential PHP Security by Chris Shiflett - Pixelated Dreams
I was fortunate enough to receive a copy of Chris Shifletts book, Essential PHP Security published by O'Reilly.
Chris does an excellent job dissecting and explaining each of the 8 major security topics he covers in his book, first outlines what exactly the problem is, how easily it is to fall into the trap of making your code vulnerable to it, and how it is generally exploited.
Chris Shiflett has definitely created a masterpiece that I personally believe only he is capable of, his experience and precise, easy to read manner of writing are unparalled when it comes to PHP Security.

Amazon.ca: HTTP Developer's Handbook: Books: Chris Shiflett   (Site not responding. Last check: 2007-10-22)
Shiflett spends most of the introduction convincing the reader that this is a useful book and it seems that the start of most chapters is another few sentences telling me why the chapter is incredibly useful for me to read.
This book is well-written; I believe its two fatal flaws are that Shiflett seems unsure of his own book and that the book itself tries to offer everything for a developer while explaining it all for the newcomer.
I think that had Shiflett given up on the newcomer and given the developer greater depth (with a lot more examples) he would have delivered a much better book.
