Christ Church Cathedral (Montreal) - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Christ Church Cathedral is an Anglican cathedral in Montreal, Quebec, Canada, the seat of the Anglican Diocese of Montreal.
Another interesting chapter in the cathedral's architecture occurred in the 1980s, when the Anglican diocese, the Cathedral, and the Canadian Bible Society entered into two agreements with property developers to permit the construction of a 34-storey office tower behind the cathedral as well as an underground shopping mall beneath it.
This required the cathedral to be braced with a complicated series of pre-stressed concrete columns and beams, which supported the building in mid-air while the shopping mall was excavated.

The RCCO continued to support church music of all denominations, and the Anglican Foundation, a funding arm of the national church, provided scholarships for beginning organists which is encouraging a renewed interest in the instrument.

Gregg Finley and Lynn Wigginton trace the development of the Gothic revival in New Brunswick church architecture as it radiated from the cathedral in Fredericton to distant religious points on the edge of colonial civilization.
Christ Church Cathedral in Fredericton, as Douglas Richardson has documented, is undoubtedly among the most important works of British architecture in the nineteenth century.
As certain historians of Canadian culture have pointed out, the Gothic revival in church architecture was part of a romantic movement that treated architecture as an inspirational device; by enkindling the religious feelings of the worshipper, the church building was meant to play a crucial role in the revival of the faith itself.
