		EPP-ED Vice-Coordinator of the Committee for Women's Rights and Equal Opportunities, Christa Klass, announced today a clear rejection of the report tabled in the European Parliament by Spanish Socialist Izquierdo Rojo on "Women and Fundamentalism".
		Christa Klass made it clear that the EPP-ED Group wants to reject the report to be voted in the upcoming Strasbourg plenary session of the European Parliament.
		The Group is generally opposed against any form of fundamentalism and thus discussing the topic itself is welcome and of great importance, because many women suffer from fundamentalist discrimination.

		Christa Klass of the European People's Party, the assembly's largest group, condemned the interim agreement as unacceptable and said the import conditions for U.S. wine were far too lenient.
		The deal still has to be approved by the 25 EU member states, and with a European wine industry in an overproduction crisis, it could run into more opposition over the coming months.
		She said the deal sent a bad message to farmers across Europe as they were fanning out into their vineyards for the fall harvest.

		The Environment Committee of the European Parliament has adopted MEP Christa Klass' (CDU/D) report on the future food-labelling directive and thus backed her position that only those allergenic ingredients that are actually present in food or beverages would have to appear on the label.
		With this vote, the Committee made it clear that, in contrast to the Council's position, only those additives where it is scientifically proved that they cause allergic reactions in changed form and quantity as used in food and beverages must appear on the label.
		According to Christa Klass this point is crucial, because otherwise technical auxiliary substances would have to be indicated, which are used in food-production but no longer exist in the final product.

		Accurate labelling of food ingredients is essential for allergy sufferers.
		Consequently, in a codecision report by Christa KLASS adopted unanimously on Tuesday, the Environment Committee strongly backed - with amendments - a Commission proposal seeking to update the current food labelling directive with a view to ensuring that all ingredients intentionally added to foodstuffs are listed on the label.
		At present components of compound ingredients making up less than 25% of the finished product do not need not to be included in the list of ingredients.

		Instead of setting rigid EU-wide chemical standards, the committee and the commission have adopted the softer approach of framing rules for national governments to set standards, with the precautionary principle applying.
		Leading the debate, German Christian Democrat MEP Christa Klass called on member states to ensure high groundwater quality standards ‘based on human and eco-toxicological criteria’.
		The committee voted to allow national governments to take account of natural trace elements when setting groundwater standards, widening their leeway for action.
