Alexander Campbell The Christian System Regeneration
In their collective capacity Christians are called a kingdom, a nation, a generation, a family, a house, a flock, a city, a temple, a priesthood, etc. In their individual capacity, they are called kings, priests, soldiers, citizens, children, sheep, branches, stones, etc. They are said to be begotten, born, regenerated, builded, engrafted, converted, created, planted.
So long as Christians live after the manner of men in the flesh, according to the fashion of this world, they must, like other men, contract debts which they can not promptly pay, make covenants and bargains, give promises which they can not fulfil, and stake pledges which they are unable to redeem.
Christians need not say, in excuse for themselves, that all days are alike, that all places and times are alike holy, and that they ought to be in the best frame of mind all the time.

There are warm-hearted, conscientious Christians in the sects; and if we will go on and do the work they love to see done better than they can do it in their own way, they will fall in; and before we are aware, the great sects will be gone.
And this we think all true Christian unionists are bound to do; because it is only upon the belief of the apostolic doctrine, that Christ has proposed and prayed for the unity of his people.

His attack upon, "organized Christianity as constituted at that time" was not due to such an inferior motive as the preservation of the family honor or a reaction to some personal affront, but rather to his belief that the ecclesiasticisms of his day represented departures from the truth.
