The primary purpose of the Christian Classics Ethereal Library (CCEL) is to promote the use of the rich classical Christian theological and devotional literature worldwide.
A secondary purpose for the CCEL is to develop a model digital library that Calvin and other institutions could use to develop additional digital archives on a wide range of topics.
In other words, the CCEL provides a rich "laboratory" for scholars and students from a number of disciplines to address theoretical issues in an applied context.
