Dailly began his career north of the border with hometown club Dundee United back in the early 90s, carving out a reputation as a reliable defender.
Dailly's big price tag may have been a weight on him, as things didn't work out for him at Ewood Park, where Graeme Souness made it clear his wasn't part of his plans as soon as he took over as manager.

DAILLY IN DENIAL OVER DaMARCUS DOMINATION - [Sunday Herald]
Dailly’s first contribution was to clatter into his 23-year-old opponent, conceding a harmless free kick near the half way line.
Dailly believes he has several more years of top class football in him, but to be of any use on the international stage, sooner rather than later he, like Neil McCann, must find a club prepared to give him regular first team exposure.
Dailly, too, began to get himself more involved, but a high, blootered cross which sailed high into the crowd was evidence enough that providing ammunition from the wing has not been the hallmark of his career.

In 1392 Gerson became doctor of theology; and in 1395, when Pierre dAilly was made bishop of Puy, he was, at the early age of thirty-two, elected chancellor of the university of Paris, and made a canon of Notre Dame.
His method was a clear exposition of the principles of theology where clearness was possible, with a due recognition of the place of mystery in the Christian system of doctrine.

The deployment of Dailly as a ‘sitter’ in front of his back four with the responsibility to move up and on to Ballack whenever he advanced into a dangerous positions was a smart move, however.

Dailly never let the German out of his eyeline, and there were times when he could be seen squinting in the sun to ensure the impossible-to-miss hulking frame of Ballack remained in his sights.
