  Neushwanstein Info
Christian Jank, the scenery designer at the Court Theatre, painted the designs for the castle, which accounts for the dreamy, fairy-tale appearance of the building.
As the planning stage advanced, the castle's style changed from Gothic to Romanesque, and it's size grew to be of enormous proportions.
By 1869 the castle had became a massive temple to Wagner, and Christian Jank's design from 1869 was adopted for the project.

Ludwig II of Bavaria - PLAAF.com   (Site not responding. Last check: 2007-10-09)
There he built several expensive fairytale palaces with the stage designer Christian Jank, and imagined a dream world with himself as an absolute monarch descended from Louis Bourbon XIV of France.
Christian glory and chaste love figure predominantly in the iconography, and were possibly hoped to help Ludwig live up to his Catholic ideals.
A painting by Christian Jank shows the proposed building as an even more fairytale version of Neuschwanstein, perched on a rocky cliff.

Never completed after the mysterious death of its instigator, the eccentric Bavarian King Ludwig II in 1886, Schloss Neuschwanstein is one of the most recognisable castles in the world.
Set high on a hillside with magnificent views, the Schloss was designed by theatre designer Christian Jank and draws on a variety of historical styles.
The Schloss with its picturesque towers and pale white finish was originally intended to have a 295 foot high tower in the central courtyard.

 Backporch Beer: Saved!
Many will consider this to be an almost pure fl comedy, and it might be intended that way, but the scenes of ultra-religious teenagers and trying-to-be-hip youth pastors and singing songs with raised hands were all things I’ve experienced first hand…and I have never felt they were deserving of ridicule.
Mandy Moore was a little over-the-top in her role, but otherwise the treatment of charismatic Christian youth was not insulting, although the gay couple in the row behind us unknowingly insulted me a few times with their laughter.
Try being a straight, white, fairly moderate, non-tattooed, non-tech, non-drug using male living in San Francisco during the tech boom… Or being a left-leaning pinko commie living in GWB country… I guess it is all relative depending on your surroundings.

The castle that Christian Jank designed for Ludwig inspires awe and surprise in visitors to this day.
But in part because the Disneyesque image of Neuschwanstein has become such a cliché, it is easy to dismiss it as an ostentatious example of poor taste, an anachronistic piece of foolishness.
