The modern socialist movement had its origin largely in the working class movement of the late-19th century.
Early socialists differed widely about how socialism was to be achieved; they differed sharply on key issues such as centralized versus decentralized control, the role of private property, the degree of egalitarianism, and the organization of family and community life.

Christian socialism generally refers to those on the Christian left whose politics are both Christian and socialist and who see these two things as being interconnected.
Christian socialists draw parallels between what some have characterized as the egalitarian and anti-establishment message of Jesus, who — according to Christian Gospel — spoke against the religious authorities of his time, and the egalitarian, anti-establishment, and sometimes anti-clerical message of most contemporary socialisms.
Christian socialism is not to be confused with certain parties with "Christian Social" in their names which are found in the German-speaking world, such as the contemporary Christian Social Union in Bavaria or the Christian Social Party in Austria-Hungary circa 1900.

While his Christian Socialism was by no means a system, Kingsley held that a Christian Socialist society would indeed be hierarchical where each one's place is determined by his moral value as well as democratic in the sense that each one's place has been allotted by God.

I have come to know Harry through the CSM officers group, where he is Vice Chair and I am Treasurer and over the years have come to respect his wisdom and experience in all things Christian Socialist and beyond.
George Lansbury and Donald Soper are the Christian Socialists most known for campaigning on peace issues and for their pacifism, the latter arising from fear of global nuclear war.
CSM understands the whole range of faith groups and their relation to politics and the Labour Party in particular.

Christian influence has deep roots in the history of the Labour Party, but it is probably more apparent among Labour's leaders today than at any time since the party's earliest years at the start of the twentieth century.
John Smith's 1992 lecture to the Christian Socialist Movement which marked the turning point in relations between Christianity and Labour had been called "Reclaiming the Ground", and a great deal of ground was subsequently reclaimed.

May I assure you that the Government's preference is however for a second resolution, but we have to reserve our position on a second UN Security Council resolution if a consensus within the Security Council is not possible.
