Contemporary Christian music - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
The term "CCM" originated in the 1970s, referring to the emerging pop and rock "Jesus Music" movement, which was the musical outpouring of the hippie Jesus Movement of the time.
Pioneering artists such as Larry Norman, 2nd Chapter of Acts, and Love Song were among the first to express their Christian faith in the form of popular music.

NPR : Christian Pop Gets Metaphysical -- and Tuneful
Phillips already has her head in pop: The serene cascades of multi-tracked vocals and the kicky, Cyndi Lauper-ish backbeats -- see "Love Is Not Lost" (audio) -- indicate that.
Several lighthearted pop songs are marred by towering arena-rock drums and other touches that scream "Made in 1987." But in the album's quieter moments, like "Carry You" (audio), Phillips hits something timeless -- music that encompasses brooding questions and deep reassurances, guided by the devotion of one who seeks without necessarily expecting to find.
Because Contemporary Christian Music (CCM) is seen as a means to reach people rather than a lifestyle of trying to achieve, create and perform to the best of one's ability, most of the CCM that is churned out is second-rate copy-cat material.

Christian hip hop - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Christian hip hop (originally gospel rap, also known as holy hip hop) is a form of hip hop music which uses Christian lyrical themes to express the songwriter's faith.
Christian rap and hip hop artists are professed Christians in most cases, and use the fact that they are urban or suburban as a positive issue used to spread their religion, and like all Christian music, it can be experienced as Christian worship.
Popular conventional Christian hip hop groups include GRITS (who have received some mainstream success), The Cross Movement, T-Bone, LA Symphony and Mars ILL. Among underground Christian rappers and hip hop groups, conventional hip hop such as crunk is generally preferred, as opposed to pop-rap.
