Topic: Christian theologians

The Liberals - an overview of how modern theologians are thinking and writing
Transregional Christianity does not affect one aspect of the world, but has seeped into all countries and over every continent, and is reducing biblical claims to truth to the status of textural forces, or worse, to bids for power by sub-traditions within the movement.
Christianity, as a result of missionary activity over the centuries, has become a worldwide religion, however, a minority may be said to occupy the true communion of saints due to theological post modernistic theology and a change of the Gospel message.
Christian theologians see limits to natural revelation and nature in general (only demonstrating the orthodoxy of God’s transcendent power and divine majesty) but proponents of these modernized ideas take this to mean that natural theology and science are means to experience and know God as self revelatory.

lifeissues.net | A Theologians' Brief On the place of the human embryo within the Christian tradition
Furthermore, St Thomas Aquinas, one of the most authoritative theologians of the Middle Ages, explicitly held that the human embryo did not possess a spiritual soul and was not a human being (homo) until forty days in the case of males or ninety in the case of females.
Christians held, and continue to hold, that the spiritual soul is present from the moment there is a living human body45 until the time that body dies.
Christians recognize the embryo to be sacred precisely because it is inseparable from the mystery of the creation of the human person by God.

What is your view of liberal Christian theology?
Liberal Christian theologians sought to reconcile Christianity with secular science and “modern thinking.” In doing so, they treat science as “all-knowing” and the Bible as fable-laden and false.
Mankind is not seen as totally depraved, and thus liberal theologians had an optimistic view of the future of mankind.
Because of this belief, man (the liberal theologians) must determine which teachings are correct and which are not.

Christian Zionism, definition - Zionism and Israel -Encyclopedia / Dictionary/Lexicon of Zionism/Israel/
Christian support for restoration of the Jews became popular when Protestant theology began to base its beliefs and sermons on printed copies of the Bible in vulgate.
Previously, Christian theologians had "reinterpreted" every promise of restoration of Israel as a promise to keep faith with the Christian church.
That this Nation of England, with the inhabitants of the Netherlands, shall be the first and the readiest to transport Israel's sons and daughters on their ships to the land promised to their forefathers, Abraham, Isaac and Jacob for an everlasting inheritance.

To the extent that modern theologians must ascribe new meaning to particular Christian beliefs so that they will come out true within the “modern worldview,” they “systematically in crease the likelihood that these interpretations will be implausible,” not only for distinctive Christian beliefs, but for all beliefs.
For example, Christian figural reading of the Old Testament was often attacked as an abuse of the plain sense meaning of the text, and for reasons not dissimilar to Marshall’s attack upon the meaning—mongering of modern theology.
Too many theologians put trinitarian theology to nontheological uses: they try to “discover meaning” from trinitarian language, or to “raise up” Christian beliefs to the conceptual level, or to show how friendship or equality or mutuality or reciprocity or other leading ideas are “mediated” by trinitarian language.

 More on Theologians
Others have argued that, say, in Islam, theological discussion which parallels Christian theological discussion has, in the modern period, been a minor activity, and that the Islamic analogue of Christian theological discussion would more properly be the investigation and elaboration of Islamic law.
In Eastern Christianity, there is more emphasis on prayer than on intellectual thought and study as a means to learn about God, and so as the proper form of "theology".
More generally, however, many theologians consider that, because the topics considered in theology touch on the theologians' deepest commitments and beliefs, it is impossible to study theology with complete detachment: the study of theology is "self-involving" in a way that makes some kinds of objectivity difficult.

 Evolution and the Christian God
We must frankly return to the Christian view of direct Divine agency, the immanence of Divine power from end to end, the belief in a God in Whom not only we, but all things have their being, or we must banish him altogether.
You said "These days, many Christian theologians claim that an evolutionary universe fits unforcedly into the Christian conception of God." I wonder if you can give me further information about this, coz this is a question that hang around in my mind for a long time and don't know who to ask.
In the same way, many 20th-Century theologians find the death and renewal that are positively required by an evolutionary universe to be a reflection of the God who died on the Cross for the redemption of the world, and rose again to renew and redeem creation.

Around the turn of the first century, Christian writers began to turn their attention outward in defense of Christianity against false claims made by Roman persecutors and demonstrating Christianity's reasonableness to minds trained on Greek philosophy.
These converts brought with them many ways of understanding Christianity, and often their perspectives on Christianity were quite different from that of most church leaders.

 Christian Reincarnation
Christ's countrymen seem to have thought of the doctrine of reincarnation as an intriguing, if unproven theory; the Israelites were aware, of course, that their sacred scriptures didn't specifically endorse this theory, but, since they didn't condemn it either, the general population apparently felt it best to keep an open mind about the whole idea.
Indeed, the Gnostic Christians believed reincarnation to be the true interpretation of "resurrection" for those who have not attained a spiritual resurrection through this secret knowledge.
Christians may be interested to know that many scholars analyzing the Bible now believe that Jesus never claimed to be the only Son of God.

Christian Leaders Urge Caution on 'Passion' DVD Release -- Beliefnet.com
(RNS) A group of nearly 100 Christian theologians urged caution and expressed concern about "misrepresentations" of Jews in Mel Gibson's "The Passion of the Christ" as the blockbuster film was released on DVD.
A statement signed by 97 theologians, pastors and other church officials said the "visually powerful portrayal" of the death of Jesus in Gibson's film includes "numerous explicitly anti-Jewish elements that we consider an affront to the gospel."
The statement was coordinated by John Merkle, a professor of theology at the College of St. Benedict and St. John's University in Minnesota, and Peter Pettit, director of the Institute for Christian-Jewish Understanding at Muhlenberg College in Allentown, Pa.

 Observations of Christian Theologians
Later, when thc Christians started to derive their arguments against the Jews from this translation, the Jews commenced their criticism against it and said that it was not in accordance with the Hebrew version and that many verses from this translation had been removed at the beginning of the second century.
Deliberate manipulation also occurred at the hands of believing Christians simply out of opposition to other Christians who, in their opinion, were not correct.
We Christians preserved them, so that the blame for distortion must be laid at the door of the Jews, though we do not believe those false descriptions.
