Eureka Township is a small rural community located in the southwestern corner of Dakota County, Minnesota, approximately 25 miles south of Minneapolis–St. Paul.
Major roadways bordering or in Eureka Township include Interstate 35 to the west; Dakota C.R. 70 to the north; Dakota C.R. 86 to the south; Cedar Avenue, which bisects the township; and Dodd Boulevard, which runs north-south through the township and was one of the first surveyed roads in the state.
The township is located on the fringe of suburban development in Lakeville to the northwest and Farmington to the northeast.

 Early Wang Settlers
When local Valdres folk gathered on the Ole Oveson farm in Wang Township Renville County, Minnesota on July 31, 1927, a number of the older folk were selected from the assemblage estimated at 700 or 800 to be photographed separate from the crowd photo.
The fact that the township and a church are named Wang is evidence that the great majority of the early settlers were from Vang, Valdres.
The first settlers in Wang township, however, were from the Oslo area (Christiania), but the masses voted to name the township Wang instead of Christiania, which had been suggested.

John and Karen Hogenson, pioneers of Romness Township, Griggs County, moved from Fillmore County in Minnesota, September 1, 1880, to their homestead in Romness Township, Dakota Territory.
John Hogenson were married in Highland Prairie, Minnesota in 1876 and lived for four years at Amherst, Minnesota.
Hogenson left Fillmore County in Minnesota for the "Wild West.” His friend, Peter Mathison, who had been employed with the government surveyors, had told him that in his judgment, the place, which is now Griggs County, was the right place for an ideal home.
