Goddess Musings: I ♥ Christine Cegelis   (Site not responding. Last check: 2007-10-25)
I think it’s an and astonishing example of what one person is capable of doing for the Party even after it threw her under the bus.
After the primary, Christine Cegelis could have easily went and said “screw it” and walked away from politics, especially given the number of knives stuck in her back by the party leadership.
Christine will be the first to point out that she was just one of many people helping in these races.

Cegelis has run once and lost to an extremely old man, and while I would be voting for her in that primary if I could in all likelihood- these other two deserve a fair airing.

The Capitol Fax Blog » Cegelis poll
I don’t understand the rush to pillory Cegelis and push her out stage right, when all she seems to be asking for is a little support (or, at least, not active undermining) from the DCCC and the chance to make good on the 44% she showed last year.
Maybe Cegelis has a done a poll that shows she how she can win in the district, I don’t know, the Cegelis campaign hasn’t released one, suggesting they have not accomplished a very basic task for large race, doing a survery to determine the political landscape, and where your opponent might be vulnerable.
And that Cegelis has been successful in the corporate sphere, especially during the 1980s when women regularly hit a glass ceiling very early in their careers, is not to be dismissed.

Henry Hyde - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
As the current chairman of the House International Relations Committee, of which he has been a member since 1982, Hyde was involved in debates concerning the War Powers Act, NATO expansion, the investigation of the Iran-Contra affair, and, most recently, sponsorship of a bill to reduce U.S. funding to the United Nations.
Over the years Hyde's DuPage County district began to shift in demographics, leading his 2004 Democratic challenge Christine Cegelis to garner over 44% of the vote, the highest total of any of Hyde's opponents.
Due to Hyde's age and Phil Crane's defeat in 2004 at the hands of Melissa Bean after she had done surprisingly well in 2002, intense speculation ensued that Hyde would retire.
