  Christophe Soglo
Christophe Soglo (1909 1983) was a Beninese military officer and political leader.
After Benin achieved independence in 1960, Soglo was given the rank of colonel or possibly general in the army and became the chief of staff under President Hubert Maga.
In October 1963, Soglo overthrew the government and established a provisional government with himself as chairman.

Maga, who at the time of his death was a member of the Constitutional Court, was elected president in December 1960, the year Dahomey won independence from France.
In October 1963, he was overthrown in a military coup led by Col. Christophe Soglo.
Maga returned to power in 1970 as a member of a triumvirate, which in turn was overthrown in October 1972 in a coup led by Mathieu Kerekou, currently the elected president.

Economic problems continued, the Bariba in the north revolted, there were strikes, and Apithy and his vice president, Ahomadegbe, differed on policies such as the recognition of Red China.
From his exile in France, Apithy played no significant role in the later overthrow of Soglo in 1967, the military regime of Col. Alley, the restoration of civilian government under Emile Derlin Zinsou, and its overthrow in December 1969.

He served as the president of Benin between 25 January 1964 and 27 November 1965 where he was overthrown by Christophe Soglo after infighting among the members of the government.
After this event he fled to Paris for the first time but he returned to Cotonou after October 1972's coup, where he became a member of the Presidential Triumvirate during the early 1970s.
