Arch Enemy - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Johan Liiva quit the band in 2001 and was soon replaced by amateur journalist and death metal vocalist Angela Gossow, who had given a demo tape to Michael Amott earlier that year during an interview she had conducted with him.
Despite rumours of Gossow being chosen to join the band solely due to her supposed romantic involvement with Michael Amott, she proved to be a competent singer and was received warmly by most fans.
This recording marked a change for the Amotts who had played Peavey 5150 amps for a long time; during a tour promoting Anthems of Rebellion, Michael was approached by representatives from Krank Amps.

The Brothers Amott are, in my opinion, one of, if not the, best guitarists/ songwriting pairs in metal today.
Talking to Michael Amott provided some illumination into that recording, and I think that it's definitely safe to say that Burning Bridges rectifies any weaknesses in the AE armor.
Well, what needs to be said, besides the fact that the elder Amott is responsible for penning some of the greatest songs in death metal history.

According to Amott, however, this was very deliberate on their part.
Amott mentions Slayer as one of his and his brother's chief guitar influences, so there is the added bonus of playing with one of their major inspirations.
Musically, the highlight was the Amott brothers' insane back and forth soloing, but this wouldn't have sounded nearly as good if they weren't backed by the incredible rhythm section of D'Angelo and Erlandsson.

Crave Magazine - Your guide to extreme culture
The band, originating in Sweden, was founded in 1996 by former Carcass guitarist Michael Amott who was joined by his brother Christopher Amott, drummer Daniel Erlandsson and initial vocalist Johan Liva.
Christopher Amott decided there were still changes that needed to be made before the band could move forward and unexpectedly hired an unknown German vocalist by the name of Angela Gossow to replace Johan Liva.
After deciding that Liva no longer fit into the bands future, Chris Amott remembered the demo tape and they decided to audition Gossow, and the audition turned into a permanent arrangement that changed all of their futures forever.

Armageddon is a band led by Christopher Amott, currently in Arch Enemy and brother of fellow AE guitarist Michael Amott.
At the time of Armageddon's debut album (Crossing The Rubicon) in 1997, Amott was playing in both bands concurrently, and soon after its release he announced that he couldn't devote time to both groups, deciding to focus on AE and put this band to bed.
It's a well-done album, though certainly a bit of a surprise to older fans of the band.

Evils-Darkland.de: Armageddon - Thrashmetal aus Schweden
There are some similarities between this band and guitarist Christopher Amott's other band (Arch Enemy), as both have definite old-school thrash tendencies mixed with 90's intensity.
Initially Amott split time here and in Arch Enemy (along with brother Mike, who incidentally guests on Rubicon), and eventually decided that there wasn't enough time to devote to both bands, resulting in Armageddon disbanding, but new albums surfaced in 2000 and 2002 (released in Japan only) with new
lineups surrounding Amott (now singing as well as playing guitar), so for the time being the band is apparently active, and Amott again plays in both bands, as does drummer Daniel Erlandsson.

Arch Enemy was assembled when death metal band Carcass ended, and guitarist Michael Amott (ex-Carcass and Carnage) and vocalist and bassist Johan Liiva (ex-Carnage) joined forces with guitarist Christopher Amott and drummer Daniel Erlandsson in order to play together once more.
In 1999, Burning Bridges was released, and was soon followed by the live album Burning Japan Live 1999, which was initially a release limited to Japan, but which was released on the rest of the world to attend demands from fans.
Johan Liiva quit the band in 2001 and was soon replaced by amateur journalist and death metal vocalist Angela Gossow, who had given a demo tape to Michael Amott eariler that year during an interview she had conducted with him.

If you listen to this back to back with Arch Enemy you can see what I mean Killer guitar riffs on this album, and incredible drumming by Peter Wildoer, who, like Sean Reinert, shows that you can incorporate finesse and groove into speed metal.
So, besides the 2 "songs" which seem awkward, Crossing the Rubicon is a progressive metal achievement of the highest quality, and if you can find it, I highly suggest picking it up.

These albums were fueled by flawless dual guitar technical execution and a previously unheard of mixture of melody and aggression, which helped them quickly solidify their reputation as one of the genre's elite.
Mike Amott (lead guitars) further describes his thoughts on the group's highly anticipated new album: “I think all great metal needs that killer mix of classic riffs and ripping solos, something that has been a bit of a dying art recently.

The band was formed in January of 1996 after Michael Amott and Liiva discussed getting together again with the purpose of playing some heavier material like 'the good old days.' With time finally allowing, a brother and a drummer were recruited and the result was indisputable.
The Amott brothers practice throwing metal riffs at the listener once more before weaker chants are introduced with normal male vocals in the background.
The melodies are in place, the shredding continues in brilliant fashion courtesy of Amott & Amott and singer Angela Gossow ensures the extremeness runs as unabashed as ever with her piercing roar up front.

Michael and Christopher Amott truly shine on the album, their solos the highlight of each track, and the album's three instrumentals, "Enter the Machine", "I Am Legend" (which segues into the brilliant thrasher "Out For Blood"), and especially the fantastic "Hybrids of Steel" all stand up well alongside the vocal-oriented tracks.
Although her atonal vocals are far easier to understand than the majority of her male counterparts, many will think that the lack of vocal melodies is too much of a glaring weakness.
In his own defense, Michael Amott contends that his goal with Arch Enemy was to marry the brutal with the melodic, and on Doomsday Machine, the band does so with impressive skill.

But, as the overwhelming response to their latest record, _Anthems of Rebellion_, and the praise garnered from such respected stalwarts as Slayer and Hatebreed (with whom they currently share a bill on the US Jagermeister Tour) would indicate, Arch Enemy are very much a band whose time has come.
Christopher Amott -- one half of the creative nucleus that powers the band -- is hesitant to take much of this with any semblance of seriousness though, preferring instead to joke about the band's arrogance having gotten them to the point where they are today.
I think that has more to do with Michael [Amott]'s riff style really, which is inspired by things like Rainbow and Deep Purple.
