However, in four separate voyages to the Caribbean from 1492 to 1504, he remained convinced that he had found the lands that Marco Polo reached in his overland travels to China at the end of the 13th century.
However, most scholars generally agree that he was born in the Italian port city of Genoa, on the Ligurian Sea (an arm of the Mediterranean Sea), between August 25 and October 31, 1451.
Columbus’s son Ferdinand stated in History of the Life and Deeds of Christopher Columbus that in 1472 Columbus was given command of a ship on a privateering expedition to Tunis in northern Africa.

He apologized to the Eastern Orthodox Christians, and to the Muslims, for the appalling damage done to civilization by papal advocacy of the Crusades, and by forced conversion and massacre in the Balkans during the church's open alliance with fascism during World War II.
For us, this day is only the interment of an elderly and querulous celibate, who came too late and who stayed too long, and whose primitive ideology did not permit him the true self-criticism that could have saved him, and others less innocent, from so many errors and crimes.

 Ian Cleary's Extended Essay
In Christopher Marlowe's Edward II and William Shakespeare's Richard II, the issue of the justification of deposing a tyrant is discussed.
Richard II is a tyrant because he is implicated in the death of his uncle, the Duke of Gloucester, banishes Henry Bolingbroke, farms out the kingdom for taxation, and defies the law in his seizure of Bolingbroke's lands and possessions to finance his Irish campaign.
Richard II and Edward II are men who are born to rule, and they feel that ordained monarchs, the state and the king are inseparable; what they have done is right by virtue of the fact that they are monarchs.

BBC - h2g2 - 'Edward II' by Christopher Marlowe
There are two types of people in the world of Christopher Marlowe’s plays: those who are born to power, and those who take it.
The subversive King Edward II is buried with full honours (as befitting a rightful king), while the rebel Mortimer is executed without repentence or forgiveness - damned for his presumption in a valuable lesson to any like-minded Elizabethan audience member, who may have tried to take an entirely different lessson from the play.
Derek Jarman's film Edward II focuses on the positive example of homosexuality that Edward and Gaveston set, while Mel Gibson's film Braveheart makes Edward a deviant minor character in the background of an epic tale of a staunchly heterosexual hero.

Book Review: Kaiser Wilhelm II, by Christopher M. Clark
Kaiser Wilhelm II was a devout Christian with some liberal leanings and some of the racist, social-Darwinism and anti-Semitism of his day.
Wilhelm was a man of common intelligence who was the father of his nation simply by accident of birth, and common intelligence, as I see it, was not enough to keep Europe from war.
Wilhelm's responsibility for the war was combined with the monarchs Nicholas II of Russia and Franz Joseph of Austria, who also held power by accident of birth, and were also less than bright.

According to Scream, the rule of horror sequels is that they are bloodier and the body count higher and so it was with Hellraiser II which reunites the surviving original cast members to face Pinhead and the Cenobites in a journey into Hell.
Christopher Young's original, while operatic for a horror score almost pales in comparison to the sequel which puts it cards on the table from the thunderous vocal and brass choirs of the opening Hellbound, introducing a variant on the original three note motif.
The rule of sequel scores is that they take the original material and expand upon them which is exactly what Young does, both in terms of the variety and visceral impact.
