Christopher Reeve (September 25, 1952 – October 10, 2004) was an American actor, director, producer and writer renowned for his film portrayal of Superman/Kal-El/Clark Kent in four films from 1978-1987.
In 1995, Reeve was rendered a quadriplegic during an equestrian competition and was confined to a wheelchair for the remainder of his life.
Reeve also lobbied against the U.S. government's limited funding on the controversial human embryonic stem cell research on lines established on or before August 9, 2001, instead wanting scientists who take federal money to be unfettered in their research concerning human embryo stem cell lines made later.

Reeve went into cardiac arrest Saturday while at his Pound Ridge home, then fell into a coma and died Sunday at a hospital surrounded by his family, his publicist said.
Reeve was born Sept. 25, 1952, in New York City, son of a novelist and a newspaper reporter.
Reeve also is survived by his mother, Barbara Johnson; his father, Franklin Reeve; his brother, Benjamin Reeve; and his two children from his relationship with Exton, Matthew, 25, and Alexandra, 21.
