  Christopher Chope - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Christopher Chope was born in Putney, the son of a judge, and was educated at the St Andrew's School in Eastbourne and Marlborough College, before attending the University of St Andrews where he was awarded a Bachelor of Laws degree, and finished his education at the Inns of Court School of law.
He was called to the bar at the Inner Temple in 1972 and was elected as a councillor in the London Borough of Wandsworth in 1974 and became the council leader in 1979; he left the council on his first election to parliament in 1983.
Out of parliament, Christopher Chope took up a consultancy with Ernst and Young, but was re-elected at the 1997 General Election where he regained the Christchurch seat following its fall at the 1993 Christchurch by-election caused by the death of Robert Adley.

Shaffer, who is now a civilian employee of the Defense Intelligence Agency, also has publicly asserted that military lawyers stopped the Able Danger staff from sharing the information on Atta with the FBI out of concern about gathering and sharing information on people in the United States legally.
Able Danger's purpose was to "characterize the al-Qaida network," Chope said, and determine the terror network's vulnerabilities and linkages at a time when U.S. officials were unaware that al-Qaida members were operating inside the United States.

Defence Minister Geoff Hoon attacked the daily newspaper "The Independent" and its correspondent in Baghdad, Robert Fisk, and implied that he had allowed himself to be fooled by the regime and had dubious sources.
On 2 April, Home Secretary David Blunkett said journalists reporting "behind enemy lines" and giving "blow-by-blow" accounts of what was happening in Iraq were treating the coalition forces and Iraqi regime as "moral equivalents." Journalists retorted that they had a right to inform the public and accused the government of trying to muzzle the press.
