Loop theorem - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
In the topology of 3-manifolds, the loop theorem is a generalization of Dehn's lemma.
The loop theorem was first proven by Christos Papakyriakopoulos in 1956, along with Dehn's lemma and the sphere theorem.
The same tower construction was used by Papakyriakopoulos to prove the sphere theorem, which states that a nontrivial map of a sphere into a 3-manifold implies the existence of a nontrivial embedding of a sphere.

 Top Literature - Christos Papakyriakopoulos
Christos Dimitriou Papakyriakopoulos (Χρίστος Δημητρίου Παπακυριακόπουλος in Greek; 1914-June 29, 1976) was a Greek mathematician, specializing in geometric topology, commonly known as "Papa".
He worked in isolation from most of the mathematical community until 1948, when he was invited by Ralph Fox to come as his guest at the Princeton mathematics department.
Papakyriakopoulos is best known for his proofs of Dehn's lemma, the loop theorem, and the sphere theorem, three foundational results for the study of 3-manifolds.

Max Dehn - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
He also stated Dehn's lemma, but an error was found in his proof by Hellmuth Kneser in 1929.
The result was proved in 1957 by Christos Papakyriakopoulos.
The word problem for groups, also called the Dehn problem, was posed by him in 1911.

Yes, Christo and his wife Jeanne-Claude were born on the same day in the same year, but given my problems on Charles Darwin, I'll leave the pleasure of inserting this to someone else.
According to ''To Vima'', a respected Greek daily newspaper, Tsekos had proposed a secret programme to the Greek government in 1997, which was projected at a cost of 6 million Euros and was to provide 150 Greek athletes with non-detectable doping substances in preparation for the 2004 Olympic Games.

You will also find buckets of information on the many labors toward a proof of the conjecture, achievements for which it can be said "Closer, and closer, but still no cigar."
Doxiadis's fiction is partly "faction." I've heard that the character of Petros was inspired by the Princeton career of Christos Papakyriakopoulos, who got hung up on the Poincaré conjecture.
Doxiadis weaves many historic figures into his plot, portraying both their mathematical personas and their psychosocial abnormalities.
