  Christy Clark's Next Battleground :: News :: thetyee.ca
If Christy Clark does to the Ministry of Children and Families what she did to Education, I and many other front-line workers in the field will soon be on another front line...the unemployment line.
I don't know why Christie Clark was chosen as Hogg's replacement other than the bulldog temperment she employs to further bully this beleaguered ministry to submission.
I wonder if Christy Clarke had a child, or family member with a disability, be it mental or physical if that would soften her approach somewhat and help her to take a real stance.

Christina Joan Clark (born October 29, 1965 in Burnaby, British Columbia) is a Canadian politician, representing the riding of Port Moody-Westwood in the Legislative Assembly of British Columbia as a member of the BC Liberal Party.
Clark was first elected to the provincial legislature in 1996, representing the riding then known as Port Moody-Burnaby Mountain.
In 2001, Clark gave birth to her first child with husband Mark Marissen, becoming the first woman in Canadian history to give birth to a child while serving as a cabinet minister.

 Christy Clark » Bio
Clark was appointed to Gordon Campbell’s first shadow cabinet as the Official Opposition critic for the Ministry of the Environment, and in 1997 she became the critic for the Ministry of Children and Families where she distinguished herself as a passionate advocate for children’s issues.
Clark was successfully re-elected to the provincial legislature as the representative for the newly formed electoral district of Port Moody-Westwood.
Clark served as co-chair of the May 2001 election campaign, which saw the BC Liberal Party elect candidates in 77 out of 79 ridings and form a new government under the leadership of the Honourable Gordon Campbell.

BCTF > The year in review: Christy Clark: Unburdened by the need to consult   (Site not responding. Last check: 2007-10-21)
Never one to be deterred by adverse polls, Clark, in late June, produced a Ministry of Education poll indicating a 74% satisfaction rate by parents and students, even boasting that up to 40% of teachers responded (the minister didn’t say how they responded) despite a BCTF boycott.
Clark, when accused of alienating teachers by shamelessly pandering to an antiteacher bias among some members of the general public, flatly denied it, using her now-famous "my-father-was-a-teacher" shtick, which, repeated ad nauseam, assumed vaudevillian overtones.
Clark, in perhaps the most revealing episode that lets us take the measure of the minister, responding to the concerns of a Lower Mainland superintendent of schools, that ongoing cutbacks would do "irreparable" harm to schools, is reported to have retorted, "That may be your opinion, but we have a mandate."

Christy Clark repeatedly tells British Columbians that she has "enshrined" class size in legislation, yet classes have not been this large in more than 15 years.
In our last meeting with Christy Clark, she told me and other BCTF leaders that she had not heard of any negative impact of her policies and that she had not received more complaints this year over last.
Clark's awareness could be so removed from reality, so before it's too late we have decided to send her the information she's obviously lacking.

Clark could barely contain her disappointment at the cabinet swearing-in ceremony, where her forced smile and I-love-a-challenge sound bites didn’t fool anyone.

The Media Face: whenever Clark is in front of a camera in a noncommentary mode, she comes across as scripted and political.
When asked on September 25 by a Global TV reporter where she might be going next, Clark candidly said with a laugh: “Perhaps today’s not the day to be asking me that question.” For a minute there I actually liked her.
In his piece “Downfall”, he includes among the reasons for Christy Clark’s loss of the NPA mayoral nomination the following: “Clark alienated Vancouver school trustees, teachers, and parents by funding only the first year of a two-year pay hike for teachers”.

 Joseph Planta's Commentary - thecommentary.ca
Gossip around the province's capital had it that Clark, who's a dyed-in-the-red small-l and big-L Liberal, was uneasy with the right-wing tendencies of her leader Gordon Campbell and some of the members of her caucus.
Clark did not of course run, as she was put in the embattled Children and Families ministry to straighten out the department after a scandal that saw the ouster of her predecessor and his deputy minister.
One suspects we haven't heard the last from Christy Clark, who could wind up in the media or in some other high profile job for which she'd be duly suited, thanks to her great savvy.

Likely Clark and Gary Collins thought if they resigned they'd be like a John Turner, i.e., 'old blue eyes', waiting for his coronation; or a Jean Chretien waiting in the wings when the party members came begging.

 Christy Clark sees Enemies Model
In its May 4th edition, the Vancouver Province quoted Education Minister Christy Clark saying "Principals and vice-principals have a right and responsibility to supervise teachers in classrooms." According to the Province, she went on to say "For too long we've had a model that assumes teachers and administrators are enemies and children are widgets.
The backgrounder to Clark's "draft" news release says that "Principals have the right and responsibility to supervise teachers in the classroom, and this is an important component of this program." What it doesn't say is that principals have had that right and responsibility for decades.
While working on her needed improvements, Clark would be well advised to limit her remarks to supporting partners in education rather than making unfounded claims about models that never existed.

Poll: Deputy Premier Christy Clark orders political hit on Herb Dhaliwal and One-Half of Lower Mainland British ...
It has been widely reported that BC Deputy Leader Christy Clark's husband and brother, the chief organizers and fund raisers in British Columbia for Prime Minister Paul Martin, participated in the overthrow of the constituency association of former federal liberal Cabinet Minister Herb Dhaliwal, including using dubious or fraudulent memberships to accomplish this political objective.
Although most respondents do not think Deputy Premier Christy Clark is politically responsible for her husband or brother, a large majority is of the opinion that she had to know what was going on.
The fact of the matter is that Christy Clark, her husband and her brother were responsible for the overthrow of Herb Dhaliwal.

 Minister Christy Clark's stories
In an interview with CKNW's Peter Warren on Tuesday (Nov. 13), Education Minster Christy Clark admitted that despite having 22 school construction projects under review (frozen) she has yet to notify the school districts that are affected.
While Christy Clark denied that government would be ordering the teachers to end their "non-strike" soon, she also said that school boards would receive their budgets on February 1st and she had to know what the teachers' settlement would be by that date.
When report cards are up to administrators due to the "un-strike" Clark may decide that "soon" has expired and binding arbitration is too reasonable, then look for more imposed concessions (larger class sizes, no relief for special needs, no specialized teachers,...).
