Christy Martin was to Women's boxing what Noah's flood was to precipitation; Martin engulfed the sport, she was the "face" of the sport, the fighter that everyone, no matter their interest or knowledge level, identified with the sport of Women's boxing.
She's coming up on fifteen years in the ring and she did, for a long time, single-handedly, provide national visibility for a sport that had none, before she arrived on the scene.
However, one thing is irrefutable; considering what Christy Martin has meant to the sport, considering the trail she has left for all the women currently "answering the bell", Christy Martin deserves the opportunity to try Laila Ali again.

Rebel View - Christy Ring or DJ Carey? by Rebel14
With an average of ten points per match, a record that he set in 1959, it is unquestionable that Christy Ring is Ireland’s greatest ever hurler.
In fact, there are entire sections in books on the masterpieces that Christy Ring produced with the hurl in his hand, while DJ Carey is really lacking in anything that defines “greatness” at all.
Sure DJ is a marvellous hurler, but you can’t help but question the valid ness of his greatness when he has time and again failed to deliver when faced with worthy opposition.
