Chrono Cross Plot FAQ - IGN FAQs
It was with the Chrono Cross that Serge, Kid, and their friends managed to free Schala from the enmity of Lavos that was consuming her and binding her to the creature as they merged into the Devourer of Time.
Chrono Cross was, after all, based on Radical Dreamers, a small project that Kato oversaw that simply sought to tie up the loose end of that game's plot concerning what became of Schala.
One possibility is that in the flow of time prior to Chrono and his friends' quest to defeat Lavos and save the future, Schala was able to teleport herself to freedom, not needing to use the last of her pendant's power to save the lives of Magus and Chrono's other companions instead.

 Flame Bait Discussion: Chrono Cross
Whereas in Chrono Trigger the entire group fell into their role more or less by happenstance (Crono even literally bumping into Marle for the first time at the beginning of the game), Chrono Cross is indeniably centered around Serge.
Chrono Cross only occurs because of who Serge is, a boy who happens to have died in one reality and lived in another.
I think what Chrono Cross gives the player is enough information so that each of the party members are more than just a portrait and combat sprite (part of Suikoden's problem), but not so much that the player drowns in knowing their entire life story.

The sequence of events in Chrono Cross consitutes a temporal anomaly that, in the "good" ending, resolves itself and ceases to exist, "resetting" the timeline to the point where Serge first pierced the dimensional boundary.

There is one character in Chrono Cross who is the game's greatest mystery and whose fate is actually strongly linked not only to Serge, but also to Kid.

Chrono Compendium   (Site not responding. Last check: 2007-08-09)
Newcoming players of Chrono Cross inevitably find dialogue concerning something that takes most wholly by surprise -- that Porre is now a military power, and maintains a dominating presence in El Nido and Zenan continent.
Since the Arris Dome was officiated by Doan, the descendant of Marle, it is logical to conclude that the Kingdom of Guardia survived the fall (which is supported by other evidence in Chrono Cross).
This theory claims that Porre was a main proponent in the colonization of El Nido in 920 A.D. and onward, and thus was probably able to extract or import Dragonian elements to the mainland, which would have inevitably been equipped on the army, hugely strengthening it as a result.
