Chrono Crusade is one of the top tier titles from Gonzo so it's no surprise to have such a good looking transfer here.
For various reasons, Chrono Crusade is a show I've been looking forward to for awhile but one that I had managed to not know anything about other than what Rosette's costume looked like.
As we learn, she and her brother Joshua Christopher discovered him when they were younger as Chrono was trapped inside some tomb or something and he's actually a fairly powerful devil that's been kept in human form for some unknown length of time.

Chrono Crusade's title is a bit of a play on words as it consists of the name of one of he show's protagonists as well as the polite termiology for the ancient religous agenda of stamping out evil.
Chrono Crusade also seems to be lighter on the CG usage than some of their other works, which is no problem as Gonzo produces gorgeous 2-D animation as well.
Chrono Crusade is an enjoyable blend of humor and action that seems to be setting up to make a more serious move towards deeper conflict in later DVDs.

Volume 7 of Chrono Crusade has such a dark feeling compared to much of the rest of the series that it seems almost a different show.
That said there is still a fairly firm ending to Chrono Crusade something sorely lacking in a industry that is all to aware of keeping it’s options open for movies and OVAs, and it’s still a rewarding purchase if you’ve followed it this far.
Chrono Crusade is a hugely enjoyable series but if you’re a fan of action shows then you’ll have to be prepared for the change in tone and the slowing of the pace towards the end.

Rossette's personality in the first half of the program is so rambunctious and perky that it is genuinely infectious, and her adventures, most of which involve her and Chrono fighting some demon who is threatening the people of New York, are all filled with weird dangers, thrilling battles, and even with moments of comedy.
Chrono is, nevertheless, provided with a number of conflicts that become increasingly important as the narrative progresses, and some of the minor characters are given troubles of their own.
The action sequences, most of which involve Rosette, Chrono, or Satella battling some supernatural monster either with their own mystical powers or with firearms, are particularly well choreographed and exciting.

The two might use a similar time motif logo, but the original title was actually written "Chrno Crusade" before ADV got their hands on this pre-depression era story about a nun and her contracted demon.
Each moment Chrono is free from his shackles is one less that Rosette has to live--a grave trade off for sure, but one that Sister Rosette would gladly make in order to save a life.
When not putting her life on the line or trying to frame Chrono for some trouble that she caused, Rosette constantly spends her time trying to sweet talk her way into getting The Elder, the Order's perverted mad scientist/inventor, into letting her field test the latest Gospels.

One thing that's been kind of lacking from Chrono Crusade, in general, is a lack of tension.
You might say that this is just the way they are, but with Rosette the way she is, I'd expect her to need affirmation of this relationship, to verbalize and vocalize it.

The third episode is when things get really interesting though as Rosette is sent on a mission in Europe where she and Chrono are to infiltrate a hotel/casino and rescue a young girl who is being held captive.
What makes this mission interesting is the secret that the girls holds in that she is one of the seven modern apostles, young people who have been blessed with powers straight from God.
The action was fierce and the scenes in the casino where Rosette was trying to tempt Chrono into letting her gamble a little more by using her feminine charms on him were absolutely hilarious.
