Chrysler 300 Overview - Edmunds.com   (Site not responding. Last check: 2007-10-20)
There are currently five styles of the Chrysler 300 to choose from: base, Touring, Limited, "C" (labeled the 300C) and the 300C SRT8.
The Hemi engines were discontinued in the 300 after 1958, but Chrysler continued to use the letter designations up until the '65 300-L. After that it was the plain 300.
Based on the second generation of Chrysler's "cab forward" LH platform, the 300M used a 3.5-liter V6, making 253 hp (that's net horsepower, a far more conservative standard than the "gross" rating used prior to 1972) and mounted longitudinally in the engine bay.

 Chrysler - Wikicars
In 1928 Chrysler founded the Plymouth brand at the low end, the DeSoto brand at the low-medium end and purchased the Dodge Brothers automobile company; all of this was in order to set up a full range of brands similar to that of the General Motors corporation.
Chrysler acquired AMC in 1987, mostly for its Jeep brand although the failing Eagle Premier would be the basis for the Chrysler LH platform sedans.
By 1993, Chrysler started to phase out the Pentastar, with Dodge getting its own "Ram" logo, and by 1995, Chrysler revived the rosette symbol (similar to the wings of the Bentley logo) it had used prior to the Pentastar; Plymouth was given a new sailboat logo.

Building the Chrysler LH Cars: new methods of design and manufacturing
It is worth noting that the LH series were very well made, and that most failures occured on components purchased from other vendors (the air conditioning units and antilock brakes) and on the transmissions, which were designed before the LH was created.
The LH engineers went back to their proverbial drawing boards and simply changed the linearity of the throttle response curve so that virtually all of the throttle response is built into the first three- fourths of the curve.
Further, machine tool suppliers for both the LH engine and transaxle were required to demonstrate, on the floor at their own plants, that their production-ready machinery bad the capability to hold specified critical dimensions even before the tools were shipped to Trenton (engine) or Kokomo (transaxle).

Dodge Chrysler Vehicles - Quality Reliability Problems Defects
Chrysler at one time said they cannot do anything because they have not seen the problem happen and claim they have no idea what is causing Jeeps to suddenly shift from park to reverse on their own.
Chrysler knew that latches appeared to be popping open even in low speed crashes and knew people were being killed, but covered up the problem even when it had a legal duty to disclose it so the company could keep its profits as high as possible.
Chrysler used political influences to avoid having to issue a recall, burned all videotapes and written reports of crash tests involving impacts like the one Sergio's family's minivan was involved in, purged all computer codes showing component failures in those tests and destroyed computer data.

Rebuilding The Chrysler 2.7L, Doug Anderson, Enginer Builder, April, 2004
Chrysler supplies this later design as a "fits-all," but it's almost impossible to make it work in an early rocker cover.
Chrysler has installed about 200,000 to 250,000 of these engines a year since 1998, so there are well over a million of them out there and most of them are in cars that are worth fixing, especially when the engine fails prematurely.
Chrysler's reman engines are expensive and the junkyards know what the used ones are worth, so there's a real opportunity for the rebuilder who is ready to build the 2.7L.

Dodge Intrepid Chrysler 300M Unsafe Steering Problems and Failure
Chrysler's view seems to be a cost-benefit ratio where it is cheaper to let these circumstances happen where a few people could become hurt or killed and Chrysler doesn't have to pay to redesign and replace all the defective parts.
We believe Chrysler has pressured dealers to reduce warranty costs, even for common problems and defects where dealership technicians were reluctant to diagnose steering related problems unless the failure was urgent and obvious at the time to push consumers past Chrysler's 3 Year/36,000 mile warranty period.
Many consumers were lied to by Chrysler when Chrysler would deny responsibility for the defect, thereby forcing consumers to live with the dangerous condition, sell the vehicle at a loss or incur the expensive of repairing the defects.

Although CATIA is important to the LH product development program, Trecapelli's point is that it is the methodology and the approach taken by Chrysler engineers for the development, not the use of the computer software in and of itself, that made the difference.
