Church and Wellesley is home to the annual Pride Week celebrations, the largest event of its kind in Canada with over 90 floats and an enthusiastic crowd of nearly 800,000 people.
Church and Wellesley is also home to the AIDS Memorial, located in Cawthra Park, where the names of members of the community that have been lost to AIDS are etched into bronze plaques.

Wellesley - Grace Shumway Adair, 76, a former chairman of the board of the Exchange National Bank in Atchison, Kan., died February 7, 1998 at Newton Wellesley Hospital after a brief illness.
A resident of Wellesley since 1985, she was an active member of St. Andrew's Episcopal Church in Wellesley.
She was a longtime parishioner of St. Jeremiah's Church in Framingham, where she was a daily communicant and member of the women's guild and St. Jeremiah Alter Society.

Wellesley and much of today's downtown Natick were both part of the West Parish of Needham in 1775.
Wellesley remained a part of Needham until 1881, at which time it was also granted governance of Lake Waban and the Hunnewell Estates.
One Wellesley man under Capt. Smith, Amos Mills, was shot and killed by British flankers at the famous skirmish at the Jason Russell Farm on April 19, 1775.

He is survived by his wife of 54 years Muriel (Kalm) Lockberg; son Gary Lockberg and his wife Gail of Wellesley Hills; daughter Diane Lockberg Egan and her husband John of Exeter, N.H.; granddaughters Erica, Kelly, Allison and Victoria Lockberg; sister Edith L. Erickson of Connecticut; and several nieces and nephews.

Boston real estate lawyer Samuel B. Moskowitz said Maffei and her lawyers face substantial legal hurdles, because a state law, known as the Statute of Frauds, requires any restriction or covenant attached to a piece of property to be done in writing and only in writing.

As far as the churches go, I think churches are discovering, as somebody said, that although one may not live by bread alone, you don't live very long without it.
But I think for a while churches were lulled into some kind of complacency about how to pass on the faith, and felt that they did not have to do the kind of concerted effort that now believe we must.

After my article was mailed to the residents of Wellesley concerning the Unitarian's endorsement of homosexuality, the liberal clergy in that town wrote a letter to the Wellesley Townsman in which eight of them characterized the article as a "wild, free-swinging attack."
She had no authority to say anything on behalf of the Catholic Church, particularly when the letter was against the teachings of that church.
Another problem for the clergy in Wellesley is that they failed to disclose a conflict of interest in that the wife of the President of the Unitarian Universalist Association, John A. Buehrens, is a priest at one of the signatories, St. Andrew's Episcopal Church in Wellesley.
