The Danish parliament ("Folketinget") is the supreme legislative authority for the church.
Chapter VII, §68 of the Constitution of Denmark ensures that people are not obliged to support any religion other than their own, thus church tax in Denmark is not compulsory, but a choice.
While the choice of not having to pay church taxes is as easy as a phone call to the local church office in the municipality one lives in, many people feel that it should be the other way around: one should have to actively seek to pay church taxes, not to avoid paying them.

Denmark Baptist Church was first called the Pipestone Baptist Church, and was organized in 1848 in the home of E.T. The first preachers were circuit riders, traveling from town to town on horseback, covering a specific territory.
The land was donated by A. In June of 1942, lightening struck they bell tower of the church, setting it on fire.
Due to World War II, special permission was granted to obtain necessary materials to rebuild, and the current structure was erected.

The Bishops of the Church of Denmark established a commission of bishops to study the biblical and theological context of homosexual partnerships, and to recommend whether the church should formally bless these partnerships with a ritual or other means.
The bishops of Aarhus and of Roskilde promoted a new church ritual that would allow gays and lesbians to contract their partnership in church.
There has been considerable opposition to a gay/lesbian church ritual by parish councils and pastors; they feel that it would place homosexual partnership on a par with heterosexual marriage.
