Intercession - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Intercession may also refer to the Catholic and Orthodox faithful asking members of the Communion of Saints in Heaven to intercede with God on their behalf or that of others.
Among Roman Catholics, the faithful may pray (and celebrate mass) in intercession on behalf of those who are in Purgatory, for their reception into Heaven.
In Orthodoxy, intercession for the dead is also common, even though the Orthodox theology of an intermediary state between death and Heaven is not as clearly or as consciously developped as it is in Catholicism.

Intercession (International Standard Bible Encyclopedia) :: Bible Tools
Intercession is thus to be regarded: (1) as the spontaneous act of man for his fellowman; (2) the official act of developed sacerdotalism; (3) the perfecting of the natural movement of humanity, and the typified function of priesthood in the intercession of Christ and the Holy Spirit.
We find the spirit of intercession in the pleas of those who sought Christ's help for their friends, which He was always so quick to recognize: the centurion for his servant (Matthew 8:13); the friends of the paralytic (Matthew 9:2-6), where the miracle was wrought on the ground of the friends' faith.
A remarkable instance of intercession is recorded in Matthew 20:20-23, where the mother of Zebedee's sons makes a request on behalf of her children; the added expression, "worshipping him," raises the occasion into one of intercessory prayer.

In the age of the Church, Christian intercession participates in Christ's, as an expression of the communion of saints.
In intercession, he who prays looks "not only to his own interests, but also to the interests of others," even to the point of praying for those who do him harm.
The intercession of Christians recognizes no boundaries: "for all men, for kings and all who are in high positions," for persecutors, for the salvation of those who reject the Gospel.

The Intercession of Christ - Turretin
Hence the Romanists unite the intercession of Christ with secondary intercessors with no less sacrilege than when they unite his sacrifice with secondary priests; nor is this crime diminished by their distinction between mediators of intercession and mediators of redemption (as has already been seen).
But when intercession is ascribed to Christ, it must not be so restricted to his human nature as to remove it wholly from the divine considered in personal union with it.
Still there is nothing to prevent our ascribing intercession to it according to the economy of grace because to pray is just as consistent with it as to take the form of a servant and to undertake the mediatorial work.

 CATHOLIC ENCYCLOPEDIA: Miracle
The existence of the Church, the kingdom of God on earth, in which Christ and His Holy Spirit abide, rendered illustrious by the miraculous lives of saints of all countries and all times, is a perpetual standing witness for the reality of miracles (Bellar., "De notis eccl.", LIV, xiv).
Mozley held that an enormous distinction exists between the miracles of the Gospel and those of church history, through the false notion that the sole purpose of miracles was the attestation of revealed truth: Newman denies the contention and shows that both are of the same type and as well-authenticated by historical evidence.
Finally, the prophetic element of the fortunes of the individual and of the Church is shown in the miracles of stilling the tempest, of Christ on the waters, of the draught of fishes, of the didrachma and the barren fig tree.
